Reasons for gambling. ..mmm. mmm.give us a minute I'm still thinking! !..mmm. Oh I've got it, start again.  Reasons for gambling. .NONE

Excuses for gambling. ..

Had a bad day/ had a good day/this happened when I was little /this didn't happen when I was little. I deserve to treat myself /I'm useless and a failure I don't deserve anything. Had an argument / need space /need escapism. The weather is too cold to go out so might as well gamble/ weather is too hot/ I feel lucky today /I feel suicidal today/ ihave the magic formula to beat the  odds/ I need a win to get back all the damage I've done to family and finances.ect ect ect.  There are no reasons to gamble, we just fool ourselves into thinking the excuses are are reasons. We choose and chose to press the buttons . The blame is ours.

Your of course entitled to disagree. There are triggers that lead people to escape into addiction  (whatever addiction that may be) ..but they are triggers, not reasons.

You have missed the point of what I was saying. The first time we gambled we chose to, everytime after that was an excuse to carry on. Anyway it's just my opinion and my thoughts written down. Do not take it personally.

Noone chooses the pain gambling causes noone chooses to want to become addicted.

Yes we can choose wether to seek help to recover but we dont choose to feel pain and urges

I'm not a gambler but compulsive gambling is a recognised mental health issue. It's also worth noting the gaming companies invest very heavily in ensuring the brain chemical hits are maximised when playing.

The choice is whether the gambler really wants to stop and thus is prepared to do all it takes to prevent access to gambling alongside investigating and neutralising their triggers or not.

Chezzy,

I believe what you are describing are "permission giving thoughts". When we feel bad we give ourselves permission to gamble because x, y, z. I know, I've done it alot of times.

At the end of the day though, we are all here on this site because we choose recovery. The ups and downs, the why's and where for's, they don't matter.

We are a team.

Let's stay a team.

Good morning all.

Hope you're all doing well. I'm doing very well with my reversal therapy.  Unfortunately I cannot talk to you for a whole week !!.

But can write my diary so that's something positive.  Take care and stay GF.

Hello Chezzy and welcome to the diaries. I don't believe I have had the pleasure of making your acquaintance before. It is good to have you here amongst us.

I was fascinated to read that you are undergoing reversal therapy. I have never heard of it before so googled it and it seems very interesting.

Wishing you every success in stopping gambling as well as with other things you are working on.
