March 2020 the peak of my addiction.

The shock of seeing over 4K of gambling transactions leave my bank within a 2 week period. I knew I needed change.

I signed up to Gamstop and told myself this is the moment I change. I opened up to the people close around me. However, I had done this hundred times before. I had bad debt I was borrowing money from friends and family. I was becoming this person I never wanted to be. I felt sly and I couldn’t beat the addiction.

after a blow out I knew I needed change. After signing up to Gamstop for 5 years I started my journey.

I struggled for years to beat this and never succeeded but I can say next month will be a year for me. Not a single bet on anything.

in the year I have bought my first house and bought a new car. Life is so much better I very rarely think about having a bet. I’m not saying it doesn’t cross my mind but I can push off the urges now as I know it’s just a waste of time and money.

maybe lockdown 1.0 2.0 and 3.0 were a saving grace for me. Casinos shut, bookies shut and then used Gamstop to stop the online gambling.

I can happily say I’m living my best life right now. Just need to shift this lockdown weight now.

I really believe you will one day find the willpower. But you need to search for it. There isn’t a magic pill to stop this it’s all down to you.

I can happily say I didn’t need much restrictions to help me. I signed up to Gamstop and that was it. I was in control of my own finances and within a year I got a mortgage for my first house. So it’s doable.

Good to speak to you all. Hopefully another year free after this one.

all the best and stay safe

Hi there,

What a great ,inspirational testimony that gambling addiction can be removed from our lives!

I’m on my 5th month of gambling free and as you said it can be done mainely with a Gamstop put in place:)

Hopefully someone in despair can see how wonderful life can be-it’s the first step which is the hardest.

I wish you another successful Year GF.

Hi there

Really really well done on this. You may say lockdown has helped, and it will have done, but remember you have put a lot of time and effort focusing on your recovery! And the dividends have paid off, well done on buying your first home! I hope you've settled in and it brings years of cherished memories to come.

Best Wishes

S x
