Does anyone have recommendations for interesting podcasts about gambling addiction or recovery or interviews with recovering addicts? I've found a couple of interesting interviews on YouTube and would love to hear more.

Hi

You will find plenty that hit home. Some you will like more than others.I would advise you see the more serious ones to really give you the heavy reality checks.

There have been television documentaries about people that dont live to tell the tale and the relatives they leave distraught. They hit hard to remind you that this is no game about a silly flutter.

When you associate gambling with misery and only misery these broadcasts will be doing their job.

I'm crystal clear that gambling is just a miserable drug habit

Best wishes from everyone on the forum

Hi mate. Recommend a Scottish pod cast series called ‘Blethered’ by a guy called Sean McDonald. There are various episodes re gambling, but definitely listen to Season 1 - Gambling Addiction and The curse of Roulette Machines. We can all relate to the guy he interviews on that one. Brutally honest but a great listen.
All the best

@moregamesmoreproblem Not rally a podcast recommendation but there are some Youtube interviews with John Hartson. He talks honestly about his addiction and his recovery via GA. He also uses some GA stories that go into depth about the seriousness of this addiction.

Just go on youtube and search John Hartson gambling Julie Collier. It's an interesting story but also one found in GA rooms all over the country week in week out.

Chris.

I listened to the two episodes last night - both are superb. The one with James Maguire is better, I think. Definitely worth listening to.

The episode on debt management is probably worth a listen too. Thanks for recommending!

The BBC Sounds app (free) is very good.

Loads of music and entertainment but also documentaries which include a few on compulsive gambling, addiction and mental health.

Good shout. Are there any documentaries in particular you'd recommend?

BBC Sounds App.

In the CATEGORIES go to PODCASTS

SEARCH > GAMBLING

Quite a few programs to choose from.

Just listened to an episode from August 2019 "Beyond Today" - "How Did Gambling Take Over Football." Interesting.

Also a few programs which touch on women and gambling.

Other programs can be found in the documentary section.

Brilliant App and it's all free.

Thank you - I'll do that.

Just on a technical/pedantic point, it's only free once you've stumped up £13.50 a month through your TV licence, on threat of jail 🙂

No TV licence required to download the BBC Sounds App.

I checked because I don't have a telly.

On the subject of podcasts, there's a new one out this week which talks about a former football player based in Scotland who has started his own charity called GamTalk which aims to prevent people from developing problems with gambling.

He goes into schools to talk to children about his experience of becoming an addict and getting into problems.

The tone was basically that he fully endorses and respects the work of reactive organisations like Gamcare, but thinks more needs to be done to prevent compulsive gambling.

You can listen to it here:
