Why is it soon as money enters my hands my whole world falls apart?? All feelings of blocks barriers and control go out of window.

I gambled the other day and feel rubbish now two days on ... I know what needs to be done but temptation and money are the winners everytime.

Any advice welcome

Cheers Jay

I totally relate to this,  when my money is gone. I go back to living a normal life. My issues and temptations present when I have access to money...

For me I found giving up some control of my finances helped. I had a period where all my money was transferred to hubby's acct and he gave me funds for day to day living.  To be honest it felt quite freeing not to have the endless battles of "should I just spend a little of this" and I knew all my Bill's were being paid.

Wish you well, with this battle.

Hi Jay... yes I relate to this. In fact i'd imagine that most problem gamblers do. When you know that money is tight and you have to keep a roof over your head and food in your stomach, you somehow manage to avoid temptation and work recovery. But if 4 figures is landing in your bank account once a month, its no surprise that addiction suddenly wakes up... sometimes its a relief to have "just enough"

This makes so much sense to me!! I haven’t put it down in writing before. When I get paid it’s like my money is burning a hole in my bank account, and I can’t stand it sitting there. It’s only after I am down to 80p and the physical sickness subsides from losing it all that I plan my recovery again and the urges all subside. I am penniless at this moment with a week until payday, and it’s these days I feel the most calm. It’s like the roller coaster has come and gone and my brain is at its most rational. Until I have access to money again of course! That’s why I’ve handed over my finances to my other half. I don’t want control over it anymore.

Thanks guys.... Still on the road to recovery but nice to know people understand the mind of a gambler. No money no gamble. No venue no gamble.  If only it was that simple. Day by day and onwards and forward it is 🙂

Nothing worse I’ve been addicted since 16 years old I’m 26 now and I have tried a few times to go off it but always fail. Over 15 thousand debt to loans just make life feel like s**t I’m trying today to go off it again day one

Hi. The best thing I ever did was to hand over finances to my wife, I was moody and felt a little humiliated at first but for me it was simply the only way I would not gamble. I too felt a sense of calm and clarity after losing my money and came to realise that was how non gamblers feel most of the time. I now get that feeling when I've gone another day GF.      I really wish you all the best mate

I gambled today dvonjunior. Even winning a little money when playing is not enough to stop? I just couldn't stop spinning the roulette wheel on the machine. This addiction is killing me so badly that my words can not describe. Rock-bottom right now to say the least. I need a brain transplant because I'm seriously messed up big time.

Hi jayjay,

Why don't you search the internet for which banks help with problem gambling?

I just did a search and discovered an article from January saying Barclays became the first major lender to allow customers to block categories of spending on debit and credit cards. And they allow you to set a limit on what you can withdraw from cash machines. I'm sure other banks offer similar help, maybe even your current bank.

No pay equals no play!

Hi there, I have looked at the banks but I still kid myself I'm ok with money. I never plan to gamble but I know it's in my mind to do it. The urge to act out always wins! My will power is zero and my commitment to stop is always 50 50.

It's time to take responsibility for my actions. I like your saying no pay no play haha good moto.
