Hi all, day 10 today GF I'm not going to lie and say I've not thought about it but I've tried my best to keep mind from it and keeping myself busy at work and at home. Limiting the easy access to money by leaving debit card at home has really helped so long as I can stick to doing it.
Anyone else got any hints and tips? What do non gamblers do to get the high we normally get from gambling? Other activities just feel abut bland.

Just checking in to keep myself in a positive frame of mind.

Sam

Well done Sam on hitting 15 days. Even at day 30 you still get urges.

You just have to keep going and remind yourself how you felt when you lost and lost and lost.

I’ve also been focusing more on creating memories that are positive which has helped.

Keep up the good work, you are doing great.

CJ.

My friends have introduced me to nowtv where I got a pen drive to put in the back of the TV. Then yesterday I am on a month trial of Netflix. Watched one season of a comedy and a movie yesterday and now in the early hours I am watching another season of a comedy. Thats me doing something different and its 5.99 per month. Impressed so far.

15 days is brilliant, keep going.

Thank you cj and Bella, I have Netflix and recently been going on ps4 in evenings to try keep mind from Gambing.
I've tend to forgotten the reasons I want to quit when I've stopped previously so I log on most evenings as a reminder to keep that thought fresh in my mind.
Still struggle to get that buzz in Everyday life and activities but I need to ween myself off it.
How you guys finding things? Any tips for longer term?

Sam

Hi Sam

Well done so far. I'm at 79 days, I set rewards at 10/20/30/50/100 days. Only small things, buy something you want or go out somewhere. I used to tick off days at a time when I got home from work. Then two days. Now I do them in ten day blocks.

I find this forum helps, every so often I read the new stories of people sharing the same addiction. Often these are worse than my situation (suicide thoughts, I've never been that low). Its horrible to read but it keeps me on track knowing that could happen to any of us. Sometimes I comment and sometimes I just read.

One other tip that may help. Don't be scared to tell your friends the truth. A fair few of mine know and they all support me and what me to finally combat my addiction.

Good luck

As for replacing the buzz... Great question!

I certainly appreciate what I have in life more now than I did before. No that doesn't replace the buzz but if you can appreciate things more then maybe you'll start to not need the buzz as much. Also your wages, appreciate them more and the value of money. Try and be proud you've earned your wage and save up what you can.
Pass your time with other things eg ps like you said. Maybe go the gym or join a sports team etc

Thanks wawaw 21 days now for me went last the arcades today and the urges were there. Yes your right Reading other stories keeps it fresh in the mind and reinforces the trains why you are giving up. I'm the same never been suicidal but it has had a massively negative impact on my life. Still trying to find a replacement for that buzz I used to get which I struggle to get now. Keep up the good work wawaw hopefully I can myself to 79 days also.

Well done mate, keep going.I was left alone in the house today but I planned some painting and ironing and did it with no problem, also I stayed in bed longer, I have watched footy and rugby but had no urge to bet, I can be like that...I have to do it this time, no turning back, it’s driving me on, still very early days but already I feel determined and calmer.

Hi and congratulations on yoiur progress.

I will tell you that joining the gym has really helped to both fill the time and improve my mental health. Working out releases feel good endorphins and leaves you buzzing in a good way. You don't have to over do it, I started by walking on the tread mill. I'm not exagerating when I tell you that after the first session I was feeling great!

All the best

Stu
