Hi guys,  Hope everyone is well.

I have posted before and tend to be up and down with how i gamble.  What i mean by that is I either control it where my betting is on a weekend or I can fall into a trap of chasing my losses.  That's where it becomes a slight concern.  I am able to stop myself and never really go to the point where I am completely broke, however it does put a dent in my spending.

Here lies the problem, I am currently looking at getting a mortgage as i live in private rented, however as you know I need to produce 3 bank statements to the bank.  My wife is so looking forward to us getting our own and so am I, however i am absolutely s******g myself now.  She knows I have had problems in the past however we settle it and that was that, however our mortgage advisor wants the details and I feel gutted.

my last 3 months I have accumulated a loss of £****  I dont feel any bank or lender will touch me when all they see is betting transactions on my statements.  I am going to tell my wife but any advice or help to give me the boost i need would help.  Has anyone been in this situation before?

Thanks for listening.

Yes, I was in same position two years ago.  I was asked to produce 6 monthly statements.

I put it off for around 3

months  and told my wife that even the odd transaction would hamper our chances.  She obviously didn’t know the extent of my gambling . Iwent clean during that period . Got away with only submitting 3 months, didn’t ask for me thankfully.

that period should have seen me stop permanently fast forward a few years and still trying to kick it after numerous attempts.

Hope it works out for you mate

Hi, mine wasn’t a first mortgage but a remortgage and most banks wouldn’t touch me I did finally get there in the end as I managed  to wait 3 months with clear statements but still got turned down by my current lender think they probably checked my bank account ( I bank with the same lender) I used a broker who finally found one that would accept me. If you can hold off just until there clean it will put you in a much better place x

I’d also advise abstaining for a few months to keep statements clean as it certainly won’t favour you having gambling transactions, especially if erratic e.g chasing your loses with frequent deposits in a short time period.

out of interest whats your credit rating like?  If good,  see out 3 months and you should be fine.

if bad then that could be another story.  I was told by an advisor that a lender needs to see 2 years of good consistent payments if you have multiple missed payments on loans / cards etc.

I’ve had some experience of this within the last 12 months so will offer advice where i can (albeit it mine was remortgaging at end of my fixed term)

Good luck and keep posting.

Now that sounds like a good challenge. Wait 6 months! Not only will you have clean statements, but a whole load more money too!

I also had that situation for my first mortgage back in 2015, I done two months without a bet and as I have a good credit rating they didn't even ask me for the bank statements. Not sure why they didn't ask but I was extatic. Good luck I think 3 months clean statements then go for it.

Thanks for all the positive guidance and support. I am doing really well so far not gambling, however it’s been really tempting at times.

deffo need to stick to this as a house and mortgage is so much more important than gambling. Still a long way to go but I’m dedicated to not getting sucked in again.

hope you are all doing well. I will update in another 2 weeks.

thanks ?
