Hi All

I’ve been a Gambling Addict for some time now and ultimately have never wanted to believe it.

I love sport and love watching it but would value any advice from one and all on how to be able to watch it again without the urge to ‘have a bet’ and be able to gamble sensibly.

I have noticed my stakes increase over the years and I’m now at the point where I can’t take the stress anymore. I’m here to talk and would really value any advice!

Many thanks in advance,

J

Dear  JoshyR,

Welcome to the forum and well done for reaching out here. There are many people on the forum who have been where you are now and will be able to offer you support and great advice.

I would encourage you to give the helpline a call and speak to one of the advisers, they are available 24/7 through live chat or by calling the helpline on 0808 8020 133.  They will be able to talk through your situation and look at strategies to help you.

We look forward to hearing from you and reading more of your posts.

Take care

John

Hi mate,

I have that same issue. I was betting heavily on football, i couldnt watch a match without having a bet on it. What started off years ago as a couple of quid on a accumulator got progressively worse to the extent of putting hundreds of pounds on the amount of corners a team would get or something equally as daft.

I am 2 weeks gamble free and have still been watching football, at first it was awful and stressful, i was thinking whats the point? But i have now found myself falling back in love with it, and keeping my money in the process. WinWin.
It is tough especially when your pattern has been to bet on every event but you can do it, and feel good about yourself again.

Hope this somehow helps.

All the best.

Mark

Going back a few years ago, I would have said it was still possible to watch a football match as a gambling addict and just watch it because you enjoy the sport. But I don't think I could say the same now because football and betting is so intertwined that it's almost impossible to watch any game without being bombarded with gambling adverts all over the place. The worst of these are the adverts for betting companies around the side of the pitch during a game. Because of COVID and the lack of fans, my eyes have been drawn to these adverts more and more.

The best advice I can give you is not to watch any football or any sport for that matter. Give it a little while until you feel a bit better and maybe try watching a game again.

Thanks for replying. I totally agree on the daft bets. Corners, under/over goals with 3 minutes of the game remaining etc...

here’s to the biggest win and hopefully being able to just watch it without being reliant on checking my phone every two minutes wondering “what are the odds on that”

thanks all for replying, I really appreciate it!
