I’m new here I’ve started the online CBT modules.

I caved at about 4PM and went down the bookies.... as always, was utterly convinced they were all going to win. ... I watch the race thinking I’m going to win until the last quarter furlong ... it’s agony to watch.

I replay the race over and over and over in my head ... I find it heartbreaking I can’t lie and also so angry

I get paid in 2 days and I’m terrified because I know there is a strong chance I’ll go and lose £200 in one day then spend the rest of the month chasing the loss.

I can’t afford to lose a single penny in the first place so why do I keep putting  myself there in the first place?

I am addicted to the horses and it’s just horrible.

Don't worry mate. I've bet on horses for 20 years and I know the feeling. I wrote down 3 horses last night. They all won but I didn't back any of them. Out of pure frustration I chucked a few hundred away on a horse I hadn't even considered in a different race.

It's a tough game to leave behind because winners can be found when you have a handle on the form but it can go pear shaped so quickly with a few slight misjudgments and it's so easy to overlook small factors.

Have you thought about setting some strict limits and sticking to small accumulators. That way you could still win big if it's meant to be but your finances are stable. It might prevent the binge betting cycle.

Cold turkey works for some but managing an addiction is more effective for others.

Without the pressure of chucking 100's on it you might find it's enjoyable again.

I read some good advice somewhere that said when you go out, don't take your bank cards with you, only cash which is therefore a big damage limiter. If you go with Lifeisstrange's suggestion above, it could be a good way to ensure you don't spend more than you intend. That said, you know yourself best - if you think you won't be able to control the spending when you go out, it's best to try to just not go in there in the first place. For some it may work, others it may not. Everybody is different and deep down, you know yourself better than anyone else.

Best wishes for a better future!
