Hi,

Long story short I've had a gambling and just addiction problems for years and last year just before christmas I blew all money for what I said would be the last time. Yesterday was 123 days gamble free. Life getting on track, savings in the bank and stupidly I had a bit too much to drink and went online thinking that if I could make a little bit more money I could go and have a free night out. Instead I've lost all my money except £100 I didnt deposit. I used to always lose completely everything so I guess thats a bonus as I will have enough to get me to payday as long as I'm careful.

So basically I'm just here to get it all out. I don't feel like I can tell my family as they think I've been doing so well for so long. But I had to tell someone and this site seemed like the right place. I feel like I know how to get it under control. I've not really had any issues in the 123 days I had stopped. I've recently lost my job and partner so I think this was just a big release of everything.

If anyone else has gone a while without and then relapsed I would like to hear your story. I feel like this was a one night mistake but I hate feeling like I will never not have a gambling problem. I just want to be normal. Hopefully this will be the last last time but I have no idea anymore. I don't trust myself.

Thanks for taking your time to read this.

Alice.

Hi Alice

Have you got any blocks in place to help prevent relapse ? Gamstop prevents online gambling

Well done for getting back on track though but you need factors in place to prevent in case you have a bad day

I tried setting up gamstop last time but it couldn't verify me or something and wasn't working. I was dealing with everything fine so just sort of left it. The less help I had but still being able to beat it made me feel a bit better about myself. Obviously that was a mistake.  I'll try setting up gamstop again now.

Hi Alice,, gamstop works for online gambling DEFINITELY,, but you can still go into bookies shops (which i did yesterday ?),, i was only 20days gambling free and feel bad enough,, so I can only imagine how you feel after 123day's!! Good luck kicking it again,, remember you done SO well before!!

Hi Andy,

Yeah I've signed up to gamstop and it seems to have worked this time. Feels like a relief.

I found the best way to stop was little rewards every day or week I didn't gamble. Food or buying myself something small.

Good luck to you and hopefully we can all get rid of this ridiculous problem.

Alice x

Hi Alice,

gamstop will definitely help, sorry to hear about losing your partner, I relapsed and lost a £1000+ after my breakup it happens, just think that you’ve done 123 days you can do it easily again. Do some positive things as it will be hard dealing with a breakup, make yourself a better person and make your ex realise that they missed out instead of dodging a bullet! I would try and ease off the alcohol as well as I’ve been drinking after the breakup and just lead to worse decisions and negative thoughts.

Good luck!

Ash

Well done for pressing the button on gamstop Alice,, it's a hard thing to do when you're so used to gambling,, it was so easy and convenient to gamble online, from the comfort of your own home,, but that was the biggest problem for me,, being a compulsive gambler!! I'm sure you'll find it easier now,, and I have no doubt you will SMASH your 123day record ?!! Well done and all the best beating what you perfectly describe as our "ridiculous problem"
