Hi all,

I have been registered on GamStop for over a year, however I have been allowed to continue to bet on a particular site, who registered for GamStop after I signed up to it. I understand bookies have an obligation to check their customers every 24 hours against GamStop? I did not change my Email address, billing address and used my normal card, same DOB.

Has anyone else had similar problems with this? I'm sorry if this is not the appropriate place to ask - and FYI I have self excluded myself, however I am disappointed this particular bookmaker allowed me to deposit over lockdown, esp as I had gone a long while without gambling.

Regards

Hi FlakePesis,

Thank you for posting. Sorry to hear you are having difficulties but if you give Gamstop a call on 0800 138 6518 and discuss with them regarding your experience and will be able to look into this for you.

It might also be worth looking at some blocking software. This would stop you accessing any UK gambling website through your device. If you go to Gamban.com there will be information on how you can do this.

If you feel that you are experiencing any gambling urges please feel free to contact the HelpLine on 0808 8020 133 or the NetLine to discuss further support.

Kind Regards

Dan

Hi FlakePesis

It is really disappointing that Gamstop has not been 100% successful for you. The couple of times I "tested" some of the old casinos I used it worked and gave me confidence that I had its protection to help me.

Would be really great if you could let Gamstop know of your experience as Dan says because it might identify either a weakness in the Gamstop system which they can address or a lack of adherence to the rules by the casino involved. If Gamstop start getting a pattern of calls about one casino or ones owned by the same companies it should alert them to a potential problem they should investigate. Unfortunate too late for you but might help others in the future.

Take care with your continuing recovery

Hi both,

Thanks - I will forward on this information. I fully suspect this is a failing on the part of the particular website in question. A popular America based DFS site under the UK gambling commission. If this is widespread, hopefully they will be held to account!

Hiya flakepesis

I'm gutted to hear that you could do this especially when you've made the choice to stop and you believe that if you relapse the harm could be reduced. I hope you've not lost alot of money due to this. But you've done the right thing by reporting this as when it's sorted you can give yourself a pat on the back as you would've saved so many problem gamblers losing money by being able to go on to the site In question

Gamstop is a block to help, not a foolproof way to never gamble again.

I have no agenda here but I kidded myself for years, long before Gamstop, that it was always someone else's fault but it was my addiction. I went to the bookies the arcade or the casino or online after swearing I wouldn't again.

If anyone keeps testing these blocks eventually you'll find a way through somehow onto a site somewhere. Do you know how you don't find flaws in the system? Don't try them.

I hope anyone who signs up also does other things like GA or talk to the Gamcare advisers or tries counselling or something else alongside any blocks you might have, including having a bank account that stops gambling transactions.

Chris.

Hiya Chris

I know what your saying as it's made me think as I've not attempted to use a site so wouldn't know if it works but I'm also under no pretence that I could gamble again in the future as I've said so many times before then I've been weak and gambled. At this moment I hate gambling as I've had a big loss so what if down the line I give in to this evil addiction again what damage is left for me to do. I really don't want to gamble again and I've got alot of help in place.
