hi there,

not it sure if this is the best place to ask this question, but can online gambling sites still perform soft searches on your credit report even after you have self-excluded from their sites?

i am 50 days gf, but recently I have come clean to my closest family, and now my finances are open for my wife to see, she’s noticed a couple of anti money laundering ‘soft searches’ on my credit report recently?

now I know I haven’t gambled, and since activating gamstop for 5 years I definitely haven’t been able to play on the 2 very well known sites that have left a footprint on my report in the last month?

i know soft searches of this type aren’t visible to lenders, but is this common practice for these companies, or do I need to look into this further?

identity fraud is always a concern for everyone, but I’m sure if anything was being done in my name then it would undoubtedly show on the report as more than just a soft search, just wondering if anyone else has seen this and might know why I’m still being looked at despite turning off all access to gambling online?

thanks in advance and apologies if this is being asked in the wrong part of the forum.

I have no idea but you could look on debt camel or call stepchange and ask them.

These reports are someway behind and maybe when you did the gamban a soft search for identity purpose was performed.

Hi tryingtochange19.

I would look into it further for your own knowledge and orgainisation. Who has done these "soft" searches as I would be offended by it. They are not really soft is someone is checking for money laundering.

Its nothing you can worry about but Ive been a credit controller and know that these credit reports are mostly for the benefit of others and we should see whats going on with them. I object that searches are recorded and any old dodgy company can leave a search record on there.

Who is suspecting you of money laundering as gamblers can often withdraw and rotate cash.

There should be more emphasis on financial organistions protecting us from gambling..why any of them would allow card transactions to gambling sites is an anathema to me.

Its good that you are open though and your credit report is available to family. That is an extremely positive step.

Best wishes from everyone on the forum

Hello, I can understand your concerns about the soft searches on your credit report. It's important to note that soft searches are usually used for identity verification purposes, and they don't impact your credit score or show up on your credit report visible to lenders.

Regarding your question about whether online gambling sites can still perform soft searches on your credit report after you have self-excluded from their sites, it's unlikely but not impossible. Self-exclusion is a legally binding agreement between the individual and the gambling site, which means the site should not allow you to access their services during the self-exclusion period. However, it's possible that the site may need to perform soft searches on your credit report to comply with their anti-money laundering and fraud prevention obligations.

It's worth noting that some soft searches may be performed by third-party companies that provide identity verification services to gambling sites. These companies may perform soft searches to verify your identity, even if you have self-excluded from the gambling site.

If you're concerned about the soft searches on your credit report, I would suggest contacting the gambling site(s) and/or the credit reference agency to inquire about the purpose of the soft searches. It's always better to be safe than sorry, and taking proactive steps can help address any concerns or issues that may arise.
