Marathon effort to beat gambling and thank GamCare trained counsellor at Phoenix + Norcas

8th April 2013

Phil Lindsay, motivated by a determination to thank those who have saved his life and make his son and daughter proud, is running the London Marathon this month.

Speaking about his experience, Phil said:

“I am a recovering gambling addict, it will always be with me, but I now know hopefully I can control it. I first discovered Phoenix + Norcas when my GP referred me to the organisation where I saw Mari Green. They were brilliant, I am so grateful. To speak to someone who could understand how I was feeling was invaluable. She asked the right questions, got to the bottom of why I had turned to gambling and she helped put in place methods to help me stop.”

Mari Green, GamCare Counsellor, Phoenix + Norcas said:

As an experienced BACP accredited counsellor the GamCare specialised training programme has enabled me to tailor advice to individual clients needs and crucially to address problem gambling and the underlying issues which underpin their compulsion to gamble. I see many people whose lives have been ruined by problem gambling and I would really like to help people before things get out if hand. Raising awareness of our services is fundamental for ensuring that people affected by problem gambling know where to seek help. I’m delighted that Phil is running the 2013 London Marathon for Phoenix + Norcas and that he has benefited from the services we provide.

Phoenix + Norcas, working in partnership with GamCare, provide face-to-face counselling services for anyone experiencing gambling problems.
