GamCare Launch Inaugural International Clinical Conference 2013

21st November 2013

Today, at The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, GamCare launched their inaugural International Clinical Conference.

GamCare welcomed international expert speakers to discuss best practice development for treatment, as well as new developments in the understanding of gambling behaviour and industry practices. Attendees included leading treatment providers and individuals from the UK and around the world directly involved in helping problem gamblers and their family members.

Keynote sessions included a research update on youth and gambling and a session on the effectiveness of a cognitive-behavioural intervention for pathological gambling. Treatment strategies, working with resistance in problem gamblers and working with gamblers in groups were also discussed. Additional highlights included a session on assessing prisoner vulnerability to gambling harm and methods on working with the NHS for treating problem gamblers.

The conference was the first time that leading authorities from around the world have gathered to share best practice and develop in-depth perspectives in this field. Treatment strategies were discussed along with innovative ways of developing a greater understanding of gambling problem behaviour.
