Ensuring Service Quality at GamCare

30th March 2017

GamCare CEO, Dirk Hansen, talks through how we ensure our services are the best they can be.

It is vital that the services we provide at GamCare meet the very highest standards for excellence, innovation and safety. The term ‘clinical governance’ refers to the importance of ensuring that within GamCare there is a systematic approach overseen by the Board of Trustees and Senior Management Team, and throughout all departments to maintain and improve the quality of ongoing service provision.

This governance supplies a framework for all elements of quality improvement, compliance and service development to ensure safety and good practice throughout our organisation.

GamCare takes quality very seriously, and we will continue to do so as we offer frontline support via the National Gambling Helpline as well as delivering our national counselling treatment programme for those affected by problem gambling.

To confirm our focus on quality, GamCare has maintained two important national accreditations:

1) The Helplines Partnership has awarded to GamCare accreditation to the ‘Helpline Standard’, a national standard that signifies quality and compliance with nationally agreed standards. GamCare participated in a rigorous audit process and received the accreditation in 2015 for a 3 year period;

2) The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) has awarded GamCare as a ‘BACP Accredited Service’ in 2016 for a five-year period. This is a nationally recognised accreditation pertaining to ethics, good practice and quality services in the field of counselling and psychotherapy.

Additionally, and following these important accreditations, we have recently announced that we will be forming an ‘Expert Clinical Panel’ with members of the Board of Trustees. This panel will oversee all the aspects of governance, safeguarding, and evidence-based practice that underpin GamCare’s vital services.

These are examples of our dedication to quality, and a drive towards effective and helpful services to those most in need.
