Announcement from Chair of GamCare: Farewell to Dirk Hansen, CEO

8th May 2017

Dirk Hansen, who has been our CEO for the last four years, has decided to move on from GamCare.

During his time with the organisation, Dirk has expanded GamCare’s reach with its network of Partners, helping over 8,000 clients last year affected by problem gambling, and running the National Gambling Helpline, taking over 29,000 calls last year.

Dirk has been prominent in promoting services for people affected by problem gambling, and has been a well-known speaker at many national and international events.

Dirk said: ‘It has been a pleasure leading GamCare over the last four years, and I feel now is the right time for me to pursue other interests and to pursue my passion to work again within the mental health and youth services. I wish GamCare all the success for the future.’

I’d like to thank Dirk for the leadership he provided GamCare over the past four years, including the work to launch a new young peoples’ programme which will help thousands of young people.

Dirk has decided to leave during May 2017. Simon Thompson, who has extensive experience within the public and charitable sector in leading care services, will act as Interim Chief Executive, while the Board of Trustees consider a permanent replacement.
