Supporting us this #GivingTuesday

GamCare supports thousands of people each year across Great Britain. Our work wouldn’t be possible without your help.
Giving Tuesday is a day to celebrate the great work happening to support charities worldwide, and provides a bit of relief from the money focused madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday will take place on 3rd December this year, and aims to encourage us to make a difference for the charities close to our hearts.
How can you get involved?
Whether you run a race for us, donate a few pounds each month or help us to distribute information in your local area, we’re incredibly grateful for your support.
You might even want to raise money and awareness at the same time… how about using one or more of the key behaviours that promote safer gambling to theme your fundraising challenge? See below for some ideas to get you started.
Whatever you do, share it with us! We want to see your pictures, videos and updates – use #ShareGamCare on social and don’t forget to tag us.
> Gambling when angry or upset is not a good idea
How about highlighting this message by doing some sponsored sports, and getting all your competitive aggression out in a fun way? Perhaps try a rowing race at your local gym; a park run with your friends, or even creating a full-on sports day for your school or office – turn the nostalgia right up!
You can register your event on Virgin Money Giving and support GamCare straight away.
> Gambling shouldn’t interfere with your personal relationships
We know it’s good to talk – that’s why our HelpLine is available 24 hours a day for anyone who needs us. If you’re raising money for us, it’s even more fun when you do it with your friends. Why not get together and host a coffee morning? Have a natter over a hot beverage and some cake (bake it or fake it, it doesn’t matter) and get everyone to donate what they can.
> Gambling is not the answer to any problem
But you may know the answer to others… If you’re a budding quiz master, why not exercise those brain cells and host a fundraising quiz night? You can charge entry to raise money, and if you do this with enough people you know you can even theme the quiz around topics you know and love!
> Set limits for time and money, and only spend what you can afford
We know that fundraising challenges or donating to charities aren’t always feasible for everyone. Sometimes, it’s enough to be kind to yourself and others. We often advise the people who benefit from our services to reward themselves in small ways when something is going right – perhaps when they have not gambled for a set period of time. You could keep that ball rolling with small, random acts of kindness where you think they might make a difference to someone – be as inventive as you like!
You can also spread the word about the support we offer for people affected by gambling problems – we have a range of free resources available to order if you would like to help distribute these to local libraries, community centres and beyond. Drop us a line at [email protected] if you think you might be able to help.
Don’t forget – tag us and use #ShareGamCare so we can see all the great stuff you get up to!
