Dear Donna,

huge congratulations on 200 gamble free days from me too, that is an excellent achievement.

Sometimes when we hit a milestone (especially around the 6 month mark) it is possible to experience a dip in motivation and resolve. It sounds like you are fighting on though, don''t get disheartened, this shall pass. If you are too tired to keep busy with active things, maybe just look at colouring in books, or crochet or knitting, some kind of fiddly arts and crafts. These won't take a lot of energy but can take away quite a lot of focus from anything you want to switch off from. Whether that's gambling, work stress, etc. And then because you've made something with your hands, it can also boost your self-esteem.

Keep coming on here, keep posting and you are always welcome to call the Helpline or the Netline when the going gets tough.

Wishing you all the very best,

Eva

Thanks Eva that's very lovely of you and yes I will keep pushing through I've come too far to give in now!

Funny you should mention colouring I've found a colouring app which is great for keeping me occupied, also been doing some diamond painting when I'm not too tired once the kids are in bed

Hi Lil

Thankyou so much for saying that, you get so wrapped up in your own experience and pain sometimes that you don't realise that it might actually help others so a big thanks for that 🙂

I know you've had a couple if relapses recently but kudos for sticking around and continuing the fight, if shows so much determination. It's so easy to just hide away and bury your head but it won't solve anything, I've tried! All the feelings you have right now are completely normal. I'd like to say I don't get urges anymore and I've got this but sadly not, of course I have more good days than bad but this demon likes to appear out of nowhere and they are the times that having all blocks in place have saved me numerous times. It took me a while to come to terms with the fact that this will be a lifelong fight but it is and will continue to be worth it 🙂

Hi Donna, just dropping by to give you my support.

Those urges sound like a pain but so long as you realise that they’re only urges and they will pass. You’re doing so well!

Happy Sunday x

Hi Donna

Good to hear from you, sorry to hear about those dastardly urges...

Just remember:

You've come so far, is it worth resetting you day count back to 1 to satisfy an urge

So much misery and heartache caused by gambling... One session can do months of damage. How many more recoveries do you have in you?

What if you gamble and lose loads of money... Gambling is more of a trap door than a golden ticket to a better life.

You're living that better life now! Why give it up!

Take care x

Hey Donna, lovely to hear from you. I’m happy to see that you’re still gamble free! It won’t be long before you approach 1 whole year! What an amazing achievement that would be, and fully deserved too.

I’m sorry to hear the urges are still there but you’ve shown that you’re strong enough to overcome those. A true Gamcare warrior!

Keep on winning, Donna x
