Today I have made the first step towards trying to get a grip of this huge problem that's been a part of my life for the last god knows how many years.

After an (semi) honest conversation with my partner about how much I've lost, the lies I've told to cover how much I've lost and then the realisation of the effects my behaviour has had on not only my partner but my children too I have decided to attempt to put an end to this behaviour.

Every day I'll just add to this thread and try and chart this journey warts and all for my own benefit and if it can benefit even 1 other person then fantastic

Hi Shaun, that first step will feel like a giant leap into the unknown but, honestly it's the best step you could take. Well done for having the conversation, make sure you get the blockers in place, register with Gamstop, Gamban on your phone etc and block gambling transactions from your debit card. These will help when the urge surfaces, which it will. The old cliche, one day at a time. Read other peoples stories for inspiration as there are many including me who were where you are now but with the right help and support have clocked up the gamble free days.

Good luck

All the best

Welcome to the diaries Shaun.

You have taken that first step and now you can rediscover the real you.

Under the influence of gambling addiction it is easy to lose sight of everything we hold dear but recovery is achievable and greatly helped by following the advice offered by Gamcare friends.

Good luck Shaun, take all the help you can and as many blocks as you can, it will be easier to slip back into the bad habits so the more blocks you have the better, Use the forum, the group chat as its really helpful and gives you a daily focus. Best advise i was ever given is worry about getting thru today without gambling and then worry about tomorrow when it comes, never try and do too much at once, just focus about today.
