Absolutely mate. I love racing but don’t enjoy it for what it is. This lockdown is a knightmare. Yes I work through week but when home I just want to stick evening racing on and gamble gamble gamble. The boredom led me to online gambling and was just crumbling. Weekends are hard. I’ve found myself keeping busy while racing is on. Watch YouTube videos on diy projects. Play board games. Go for a walks. A jigsaw lol. Anything to stop me from throwing away £100 to £1000. Never again. I’m done.

Hi spuggy, I don't personally but lots on here do. Today you need to work on a plan to help yourself tomorrow don't let fear be your downfall. I presume it's sports betting that was your poison ? May even be for a while that you don't watch sport, totally distract yourself go for a walk/run.....anything that can work for you. Have pride in yourself on each Saturday you get through, for me it's always evenings so I've been doing my allowed exercise later taking dogs for a good walk . I know it's not easy, stay strong, dig your heels in Saturday is just a day. Best wishes

Good for you Seanj, keep it going , life is richer without gambling and I'm not talking about money. All the things you describe are good for your mental health .....Gambling definitely is not. Best wishes

Two words of advice! Plan ahead! It’s going to be difficult but a big test you will succeed in. Remember it is one day at a time. It’s a long journey but before you know it, the weekend will be over, then a month will pass, then 6 weeks and so on. You will gain strength as time passes and it will get easier. I’ve had some strong urges during lockdown but just planning ahead and remembering that to gamble is to lose even if you are winning, helps me keep away. Good Luck and just shout on here if you get the urges. I do the same. All the very best. Beat 🙂

Hi Spuggy27,

Well done so far.

Just make sure your blocks are in place and plan ahead by replacing your gambling habits with healthy replacements. It could be as simple as listening to the radio station, reading, walking etc.

By finding other activities rather than gambling give you that simple pleasure in life.

I hope this helps.

Xoi

Ps stay sane, safe, calm and take one step at a time

@spuggy27 It's quite common. It doesn't make it easier for you though, but there's a couple of things you could do. I don't know if you've told your wife or if it has hit that point in your life where it is a problem, but you could give her your card and shut down access to the money. If not, most banks now have a gambling transaction ban feature which you could activate.

The other option is to avoid the sports, whatever it was you did on Saturdays that you are worried about. Don't watch any of it for a little while. It'll still be there in the future, and if not watching takes away the urge, do it.

Chris.
