Day 19 Relapsed

I am so disappointed with myself.I am feeling a bit weird.I feel sick,in short i cant even describe how i am feeling right now.The urge to gamble got me today. After clearing a part of my debt and paying rent and other utilities,i decided to use the extra money i had for groceries for the whole month to make a little bit more. They say stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.I expected things to go my way but as always im on the losing side with this issue.I am devastated. After making tremendous progress for more than two weeks i find myself in the same spot.A friend of mine visited me and i used their account to bet because all of mine are permanently blocked.I dont know what to say or do.

Pick yourself up and carry on, is there anyone you can hand your finances over to? At least you paid your bills first, it could have been a lot worse!

Dear @jayrinashe

Thank you for sharing on the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your recent relapse, do try not to be too hard on yourself. Relapse can happen through recovery journeys and the important thing is how you move forward from it.

It sounds like you may find it useful to reach out to the Trussell trust for some support with food, it's important you are looking after yourself and eating. You can find their details here: https://www.trusselltrust.org/get-help/find-a-foodbank/

Please know we are here to support those affected by others gambling too, our advisors are available 24 hours a day on the helpline on 0808 8020 133 or via live chat. Do get in contact and we can talk everything through and look at all of the support available to you.

Please do continue posting and sharing your story,

Best wishes,

Dear @jayrinashe,

Many people will be able to relate to trying to win back money they have lost - it usually leads to a vicious cycle of chasing losses as the more anyone gambles over time, the more money they are likely to lose.

I am wondering if you could speak to your friend and explain to them your situation, and ask them to change their password on the gambling website so you can no longer access their account?

Are you a permanent resident in Zambia or do you have a UK address? If you have a UK address, we may be able to offer free, professional structured support services with a practitioner who specialises in helping people to recover from problem gambling through Zoom. You are very welcome to contact us on Netline for a referral. If you do not have a UK address I would suggest contacting https://www.gamblingtherapy.org/ as they offer similar services globally.

You may also like to look at Gamblers Anonymous Zoom meetings. Here are some Zoom meetings for Gamblers Anonymous South Africa: https://gasouthafrica.wordpress.com/online-zoom-meetings/

There may be food bank services in Zambia - a possibility may be Zambia Food Bank and Pantry Foundation. Do you have any family or friends who can help you out with food?

Please keep posting; we are here to support you.

Best wishes,

Sophie

@forum-admin thank you for the overwhelming supports.I am not completely stranded.I can buy food and be able to live up to my next pay day.I just feel low because of the relapse because i finally thought i was putting that behind me.I am going to tell my friend about the whole situation but most importantly its upto me to get better and not depending on anyone to make choices for me.I have been involved with gambling for 4 years and i've identified it as something that will affect my future if i dont solve the addiction.I will make use of the links you have given me but most importantly i am going to be updating you from time to time about my recovery journey.
