Give GA a go. If it works, embrace it - if not try something else.

Both outcomes are better than just sitting with the pain and letting it manifest.

Take care

Hi sjw

You are doing great and where you have got to on your own is nothing short of miraculous story. So well done to you and i have taken inspiration from your story and it will help me on my journey.

Please try GA, i went to my first meeting yesterday and i was only on Day 1. I thought I wouldn’t accepted and didn’t know where i was going or what I was doing. Then i sat outside and watched everyone go in and shaking hands and took the plunge and immediately found myself in good company. No judgement and no predijuce.

Stay strong so we can all take inspiration.

C

Day 587

Been a little while since i posted. Just bought myself a new phone outright so i don't have payments coming out every month. Im very careful with money these days. I don't need to overspend to try feel better for a few days, its just like gambling, a short lived buzz with a heavy price tag. Im more content with what i need and want and if i continue as i am i can be very comfortable over the long term.

My holiday is all paid up, spending money sorted and my debt on target to be cleared before the end of the year. I've made a plan and stuck to it. I have a new respect for the money i have and so i have learnt to manage it better.

I still have things to work on but im getting there. Just like not gambling, one day at a time. Better to crawl forwards than jump backwards.

Ramble over.

All the best.

Beautiful post buddy.

It wasn't a ramble. It was top draw. Inspiring mate. You've done so well. Keep going.

Day 600

A bit annoying that the day counts seem to jump ahead too early now. 600 up today, focused not finished. One day at a time i'll get there.

All the best.

Day 730

Haven't posted for a while. Today marks 2 years GF. Since my last post I've had a birthday, been on holiday and moved from a flat to a house. Lots of changes continue, to and around me. I'm now debt... neutral? I have less then half the debt I started with, however I have also saved that amount on top so I could now pay that off in full if I wanted to. I don't want to leave myself with £0 (even though that is what I effectively have) because I am unsure about work and the short to medium term of that. Where do I go from here? I'm not sure yet tbh but I have so many more options open to me now I have committed to clearing my finances. Only possible by working on myself and getting help.

As ever life gives me lots to think about. I strive to keep working on who I am and be a better version of myself every day. I still struggle but I am not ashamed to say that. Acceptance gives me the chance to change.

One day at a time as ever.

All the best.

Day 760

25 months GF tomorrow. Today I paid off the rest of my debt and am now totally DEBT FREE. £11,104 paid off loans and credit cards. On Monday I get paid and will have 1.5 months outgoings saved ontop and will build this up over the next few months. Its been hard work to get to this point and in many ways I'm just getting started. It's been a long time since I had a bet and I still have very rare thoughts about it but I have the awareness and presence of mind to notice when it happens.

I'm happy with where I am and I'm now in a position to get out a bit more, one area I do still fail at despite a good level of self confidence. I have put my effort and money into the debt for the last 2 years, when I first stopped that thought scared me but I've done it.

One day at a time, the only way.

All the best.

Thanks Bal, I have great respect for where you have come from and what you have been through over your time on the boards. I wish you well in the future and hope you reach your debt free point as planned.

Thanks signalman it's been very tough at times and having more money can bring its own challenges. I feel like I am ready and hope I really can start to build a life for myself now. I have more choices now I have a more secure financial position but I also have to make healthy choices for a better life or nothing will change.

I'll be coming away from the forum for that reason. I want to be constructive with my time. I don't see or get what I used to from here and I need to have more real life connections.

I will leave my diary and account as is, I may be back and/or this might help someone.

Many thanks everyone. Go make recovery happen.

All the best.

Take care my friend.

Thanks for your inspiring story and sharing it with us along the way.

Wishing you all the success in the future! Completely get your rationale behind coming away from the diaries, at some point you become liberated in recovery and only tend to look up, looking back down or over your shoulder becomes more and more inconsequential... Yes, use your freedom to the max! ✊
