So a little over a month  ago (32 days to be precise) I decided enough was enough, I splashed my final parts of my wage and reality hit. I made steps to sign up to GAMSTOP and worked on saving as much money I can from now on. Everything has started to move well, I’ve had small urges to gamble but with the support from my partner and my own will power I haven’t cracked to the pressure.

2 weeks or so after my last bet my amazing girlfriend told me we will be expecting a little baby boy or girl. And this has been the biggest kick up the a**e I’ve needed. I’m saving so much more than I ever have and I’m so excited for what the future brings. I hope so much that this life is now finally behind me.

all the best guys stay safe

Amazing news well done, keep it up, congratulations too, hopefully the good news of the baby will keep you strong if you do feel the urge, take a step back take 2 minutes and think about not letting down the beautiful baby you have on  the way I truly believe if you have something to look forward to and are happy in your life it's that little bit easier to have the will power to stay strong.    Good luck to you hope you stay strong.

Congratulations! The biggest gift in life is to have kids, I have 4 but being a compulsive gambler has caused great guilt and pain on how my addiction has indirectly affected my family, keep measures in place and the best advice I can give you is to hand over all bank cards and remove your self any financial dealings, ban yourself from all online, Steet bookmakers, and if you can get professional councilling, believe me having gambled for a long time it has a dangerous habit of coming back and biting you at any time and before you know it any savings could be gone very quickly, put all your love and money into your partner and baby not a bookmakers bank account!  I wish you all the best and make sure you keep all blocks and measures in place to stay away from gambling!

Steve

Hello samtrowsdale,

Firstly well done for the month, but secondly, I found a post from you about two years ago that says almost the same thing, bar the pregnancy of course.

You were a month off a bet, determined to save, and so on, so if history has taught us anything, it's that if we do the same thing every time we get the same outcome.

What do you plan to do this time that's different from before, or what went wrong last time to get you back gambling?

Can I suggest you use your diary more to remind yourself of your past. When life is good, say why life is good. When life is a struggle, say so and leave your emotions on the page, not in a bet.

Don't think too big, just stay off the first bet today.

Good luck to you.

Chris.

Hi Chris,

thanks for the reply mate. A bit of hard truth there like what you said I’ve found myself in this position before and I’ve slipped.

however, why I know this time is different from the others is because before I knew I would slip at one point because I struggled to fight the urge. I’d buy a scratch card or I’d do a daft £5 bet to get my hit. I was still so secretive but this time I’m not. I’m open I’m willing to do this. 32 days and not once have I felt like I can’t do this. As we all know time will tell.

i will stay active so I can get through this for myself and family.

stay safe mate all the best
