Hello Ashley,

ive done the same thing as you did just Got my Wages on Friday and ive gambled it all Away i also borrowed extra 800 from friends only to gamble, now i will be skint for a month with no food ,no motivation to go at work or to live.i used gamstop to exclude myself but I always had a way around it. Im becoming selfdestructive day by day because of this disease. I can only  hope one day everything will stop with gambling for both of us!

I wish you all the best and many, many years without gambling .

Welcome to the diaries Ashley.

You accept that gambling has caused you nothing but misery and have made a conscious decision to stop gambling. That is an excellent start to your journey of recovery.

It is not easy for a compulsive gambler to stop gambling but many people on the diaries have done it and gone on to live happy, meaningful and productive lives.

Congratulations on registering with Gamstop. That is good and so is putting a block on your bank cards.

Other things that people find helpful include the following:

1/ Having a trusted person to help manage finances.

2/ A phone call to MOSES (tel no. in forum advice) to self exclude from betting shops.

3/ Carrying a supermarket gift card to reduce the need for carrying cash around.

4/ Being open and honest with loved ones can empower the compulsive gambler in recovery because they will than understand the problem and hopefully be supportive.

5/ Attending GA (Gamblers Anonymous) meetings is helpful to some.

Wishing you every success.

Aum
