Your story reminds me of one of those skydivers who do all the hard work leading up but then cannot bring themselves to jump out of the plane when the time comes.

Just jump man... Let go and take that jump into a gamble free life. Stop playing those machines. That's all you need to do. The rest will  f a l l  into place thereafter ?

“Death by a thousand cuts”

We all know it as well.

Even worse though, we win. Every so often we win.  And We really think we are winning and that we are in control. We are invincible...so we try and win more.... and the cuts start again.

You can’t win. Only way to stop death is to avoid the cuts.

wooooah, that’s deep for a Tuesday night.

short version: only one long term winner in gambling and it’s not the punter

The thing is I’m not spending hours on them. It’s a very short period but still losing enough on them which mounts up over the month. The couple of times I have won on them gives you hope you can do it again. When the wheel sets off I know if I’m going to win or not and that deflation when you finally get a spin but no it’s no wear near. Is terrible

Don’t put yourself in a position where your actions can make you feel terrible!

Thats the exact advice you’d give to anyone if they told you that their actions were making them ill. You’d say “don’t do it”.

It sounds simple hey, but it really is. Get blocks in place to stop your compulsive nature from putting you in a position where the end result could be (and usually is) feeling terrible.

No I’m just stating a point I don’t play for hours on them. I’m losing smaller amounts but it ends up mounting up in a month

It doesn't really matter whether you play them for many hours or not. They will eat up your money. I have played them for hours in one sitting.... and they occasionally pay, but usually if its not paying out it will take hundreds and give you f**k all back. The more you pay the more you lose. We all know this but because we are not very well we do it anyway. Self harm

Your spot on sa. It is a form of self harm we know we can’t win but we still do it

Its pretty weird reading this from you...

Forget hours... You've probably cumulatively spent weeks and months playing these d**n machines since their inception Graeme... It reads like you have reset the clock since April 1st and all your previous exploits with these machines have been eradicated from history?

You've dedicated a crazy amount of time to these machines. Youve probably lost (cumulatively) money that could have changed the destiny for not just yourself but for your daughter and other loved ones. You continue to play the machines even though you were adamant you wouldn't once the stake reduction came in.

The machines have been bossing you for over 7 years.

7+ years...

It is a lot of hours

It is a lot of money

You really need help. I do worry about you with comments like this. Only because as I keep telling you I can sense you don't want this in your life anymore. Some of the comments that you post on here shortly after a massive loss really hit a nerve with me, sometimes you come on here in bits... I feel the pain in those posts.

I think you will find a lot of the answers you wanted from this thread in your old diary if you read through posts from others leading up to april 1st. In fact I know you will find your answers there. At the time you were not accepting of them as you were convinced on the stake reduction being the saviour... If you read through those posts again this time with an open mind I believe you will find what you are looking for.

But whether you put the insight into practice this time and how you put it into practice is the key to all this.

There is no recovery for you yet Graeme because you haven't started one yet. Start one today. All the answers you need to get up and running are in your previous diary.

I really hope you can beat this once and for all.

I'm sorry but I think you needed to hear the above and put some things in perspective. I hope I didn't offend you and I hope you take my comments the way they were intended.

You will continue to waste your life on these machines unless you do start putting your track record with these machines  into perspective.

I still believe you can do it when you're ready to.

I have been on the phone self excluded from all local betting. I didn’t realise how easy it was to do this with multi self exclusion . I have changed my profile picture to the form I received to prove I have done this. That’s a start even all the smaller betting shops in bared from now.

Hey mate

Someone at GA referred to them in their upgraded state as 'death by a thousand cuts?'

They are deadly, dangerous, powerful and ruthless... avoid at all costs unless you're a sucker for punishment.

Even at £2 they are dangerous. Because as you're now starting to realise gambling addiction has not so much to do with monetary gain and more to do with flooding your receptors with pleasure signals.

Forget the money as the metric for a second. Think about time as the metric. How much time are you spending/wasting on a £2 a pop machine? £2 for a hit of dopamine? I'd rather drink a beer and be done with it. Far more effective use of my money and time. Drink the beer then move on with your day... Still plenty of time to do constructive things with your day.

Problem with these machines now is that they are not eating up your wallet so much, but they are instead eating up your hours.

Arent the hours, days, weeks and months what make up your future?

Your throwing away your future every time you play these machines now, as well as your money. Time is priceless. Don't waste any more of it ?

In some ways you can lose quicker as each £2 bet on the stupid bar takes around 3 seconds. The bar varies depending on your bet, I don't really know eaxactly how it works, even when seeing it on youtube, but for each £2 bet on the bar you lose, you get to use that money on the roulette table, which is how they bypass that £2 minimum bet rule.

It's quite sneaky, and plays into people who just can't take losing. They will keep pressing that bar over and over.

Yeah urgh your right you can lose just as much because people like me will keep pressing until I win or lose the majority of my money. That bar should be bAnned but I do think people will get sick of playing them with that bar. I always feel stupid playing on them because you have less chance of winning than before but I still did it.
