Yesterday I finally admitted to my husband and parents that I have a  severe gambling problem. I’ve had it for just over a year and I dread to think how much money I’ve lost.

I inherited some money from my Nan in July this year and blew the whole lot and it’s steadily been getting worse since then. Continuously chasing my losses, lying to my husband about where our money has gone and ending up with absolutely nothing like I have today.
I gambled my husbands entire wages for a month on Sunday night and lost every last penny. We now have nothing and Christmas is here in just over 2 weeks. I finally admitted to myself yesterday that I do in fact have a major problem and it needs to stop.
My marriage is at rock bottom , my mental state is in tatters and I never thought I’d be here.

im dreading the recovery process and I know it’s going to be far from easy. I’ve blocked all gambling sites from my phone so that’s a step in the right direction.

one day at a time .....

Dear Mrscmb,

Thank you for posting on our forum, we hope that you find some comfort and support as you move forward. Recovery, can feel daunting for some people and this is why we want to be able to support you along the way, so you always have someone you can talk to and people who will listen.  Well done for taking action and opening up to your husband and parents. Also, for setting up some restrictions.  You can talk to us on the helpline 0808 8020 133 or netline, where you will be able to talk one to one with an adviser.  We can let you know what other measures you can put in place e.g. GamStop, GamBan (both free) and talk about other options and work through your priorities in recovery. We also offer free treatment to enable structured support and help.

Christmas can heighten emotions.  Although we appreciate it cannot have been easy to talk about your gambling,  you have started the process of change. This can be carried through Christmas and into the New year and onward.

Take good care of yourself.

Best wishes,

Fiona
