Evening,

Tommy, have you purchase the Chimp Paradox by Steve Peters? If not, information below.

As he stated there are 3 versions of yourself; yourself, the chimp and the computer. The Chimp is roughly 3 or 4 times stronger than yourself.  And the computer, just acts like a data base. Now, the chimp loves to take risk (the one who loves to gamble and is the risk taker), however, the attitude of the chimp is longer needed because the environment has changed  dramatically.  That's why you have strong feelings to gamble (this is the chimp) and take enormous risk. Youself and the computer can overcome the chimp through strategy; manipulate the environment where the chimp lives in. For example, put blocks in place, banks stopping gambling transactions, change the people who you hang around with etc.

It is nice that you're filling the time with small productive activities such as decorating etc. This is a small hit of personal satisfaction- this is a stable sense of happiness rather than riding on the roller-coaster such as gambling.

Keep up with the good work.

Xoi

Stay sane, safe, calm and take one day at a time

Well done Tommy. Day 10 tomorrow and you are doing good.

You mentioned that you intend to self exclude from the betting shops. Don't know if you are aware but you can do that with as many bookies as you want through MOSES. Contact details can be found in the Forum Advice section.

Wishing you every success.

Hi Tommyt124,

Well done so far. Fill in the time as much as possible so that the thought and urge to gamble are never on your to do list.

By making a few changes of behaviour and mindset can go a long way in helping you to be gamble free.

Normal is usually boring and stable, this stability give you small does of pleasure such as taking a walk, making cups of coffee, sending the kids for football practice and so on.

Stay sane, safe, calm and take one day at a time

Hi Tommy 124,

Keep on going and you're doing good. Keep yourself busy and your life will soon be normalised again without the strong urges to gamble.

Stay sane, safe, calm and take one day at a time
