Today I start my new job and I must admit I am a little bit excited about it. A few weeks ago I was thinking that a new job would fix everything, cure me of my gambling addiction. I know much more about myself now and know that isn’t the case. I am hoping my new job can be a part of my recovery and I am pleased to be going into it with two weeks gamble free under my belt.

Might be able to find tome to pop into chat later, it gives me a real boost.

Day 15 today - a mixed bag to be honest

I woke up this morning feeling fab. Day one of a new job and I was excited to dress up a bit for work. Can’t say that I could find anything that goes well with an orange plaster cast but fingers crossed I only have to put up with it til Friday. Cant wait to wear a pair of shoes again..

My new work colleagues seem great. I am going to like it very much here. That will really help with my recovery.

This afternoon I had a bit of a meltdown (understatement). Thankfully when I got home. I know what triggered it and it has just reminded me that I am not yet resilient and I am still vulnerable. Had a good chat on netline and feeling better now.

Will pop into chat later.
Oh, and I have stuck to my exercise goal today.

Had a great morning at work in my new job. Looking forward to more of the same.

Counselling this afternoon. I learnt that I was not as far on in my recovery as I thought but that is ok, I understand that now.

I promised myself that I would start to exercise regularly and I intend to. Right now after one (over done) session I can hardly move....

Day 17

Had a really early start today for day 3 in my new job.  Stopped by and looked a few diaries and was so saddened to learn that Stace's nan had passed away. Thinking of you Stace.

It is early days, but I am really enjoying my new job and the team. Great balance between hard graft and humour. Tomorrow I am heading to London for work by train. Not really looking forward to the journey. Rush hour in London on crutches is no fun....

I have been thinking about my counselling session yesterday and what I took from it. Every time I raised a negative thought or emotion my counsellor asked "how does that serve you?" The general gist is that if a thought or feeling doesn't serve me well, forget it. A simple principle, not quite so simple in practice I suspect. My task for this week is to work on my mood and general happiness.  Work will be helping with that I think. Only when I get a grip on those will we begin to explore what my gambling addiction is all about.

Moderate amount of exercise done today, need to be able to move in the morning!

Looking forward to joining chat tonight.

Hello Murlo,

Too flip that a little - Rush hour in London is never any fun, hence use your crutches well in bashing us rats/ sheep out of the way.

Interesting re - your exploration with your counselling session. Possibly a another slant on things is when a negative thought hits the grey matter, dont push but play with it and vision it as a cloud and let it pass. Agreed, easier said than done, so its progress your looking for not perfection.

Good on you

On route to London this morning for work. There is no dignified way of getting onto  a train with crutches and a cast but I managed it. My toes are freezing, can’t wait to get the cast off tomorrow.

Prepared well for the journey today. Got a playlist of podcasts to listen to. The old me probably would have gambled the whole journey but not happening today. Getting better at planning how to fill the empty moments.

May not get chance to pop into lunchtime chat but will be home in time for tonight’s.

Today has been the best day I have had in a very, very long time. Been at work but there has been something about today that has just been really good. Felt like the me that I used to like. Long may it continue.
