Today marks 2 months gf, I can't believe I got this far. Every minute of my life, every bit of money I had, money I borrowed, doing it at work, in the Bath on way to train my under 11s football team you name it I was on my phone gambling!!

Within this 2 months of my recovery I have gained my family back as obviously I neglected them without even knowing. My kids have Dad back, my wife has her husband back and everyone even work colleagues notice the change in myself.

1st of all I still live with the shame, the debt and the feeling of being a failure to my family especially my parents but most importantly to myself. But to anyone who is reading this and feels the same please please please put this emotion and thoughts to the back of your mind. When I think about all these emotions I quickly tell myself that I was ill, I'm in recovery and what I have gained back since I have stopped!!

I know I am miles away from where I want to be and will forever be an addict and I must never get complacent but to think I am already 2months into my journey which I believed was impossible is a great achievement I am proud of.

I have met so many lovely people via gamcare and the mods are not only lovely people but also are life savers.

I would just like to thank everyone who is on the Deano train to recovery and the next destination is station 3rd month.

Stay safe all and I owe you everything and will never forget x

Congratulations Deano, another milestone achieved for you ?

You are perfectly right, the guilt & shame we feel about the massive loses we have lost will always be with us but you are well on your way to putting this down to just a bump in the road on life’s journey.

Our kids & family are everything & we must continue to make them proud & never give up. We may have lost a lot of money but we still have what is most important in our lives!!

Enjoy your day Deano & congratulations on your continued success ??

Deano , the only thing you owe anyone on here is to keep going in your recovery. You have done this !! Hard work and digging deep in hard times has got you here. Keep going day by day and really enjoy life being gamble free. Lovely to read

Hi Patricia16

I hope you are well.

When you say in the midst of not being able to control your gambling I assume you're struggling a little??

I really hope not but if you are and need a chat I am always here,

In my early stages (which some will say 2 months is still early) every time I thought about gambling I hopped on here, spent hours reading and chatting to the lovely people here. There are some lovely characters and you will find identical people with identical issues as yourself and they encourage you.

Lou lou, C17ort, aum, scotty, slow, stace, toad, angel, vinnie and bal off top of my head have been with me since day 1 and made me feel at home. I will never forget them nor not be there for them too.

Then you have others above on my post who I may have spoken too once or twice and are kind enough not only to listen and read what you have wrote but to also comment and support!!

You are not alone and don't ever think you are.

All the best

Deano
