When Joe Root walks to the crease he doesn't think I'm going to score a century in the next however long. He sets solid defences and foundations and focuses on seeing off the new ball.

Looking to score his first run and hit his first boundary. The bowlers are trying everything to entice him into playing an expansive drive and nicking off caught behind. He stays firm and patient trying to reach double figures.

He chats with his batting partner and talks about reaching 20. He's not thinking about his ton or even if he England can win this game. He knows if he bats to the best of his ability and doesn't get out he'll accumulate runs and this in time will help the team.

He pushes on into the 40's, seeing the ball better and every shot he plays he feels more confident. Then suddenly the thick dark clouds appear from the east and the light turns dull, batting conditions become harder. But he's still there 43 not out.

It rains and an early lunch is taken. The crowd applaude him off the pitch, a great start, well done be proud of what you've achieved. Still work to be done though this game won't be won by scoring 43.

Rain clears and back out after lunch. Time to refocus, take a new guard. Be strong, be determined and be confident. You can do this. A chat with your friend at the other end and encourage each other.

50 reached, well done! Smile, be happy enjoy the moment, acknowledge the crowd.

Helmet and gloves back on, go again, now try and reach 60..70...80. Don't have hit boundaries every shot. Keep picking up the singles, rotating the strike.

The bowler suddenly bowls a bad ball. Hit it out the ground!... Oh dear you didn't quite hit it hard enough. The ball flys straight towards the fielder. He drops it! Wow close call that one! But your still here Joe not out. re focus again and remember not to play that shot again. Learn from your mistakes. Your doing superb but anything positive we can use from whats happened before let's use it.

Creeping towards the century... Seeing the ball better, confident but not cocky. Don't get cocky things can end just like that. Only takes one bad shot or mistake and we're out.

Boom! Four runs and Root reaches his century! Brilliant Joe, well done. Everyone is so proud of you, be proud yourself, embrace it what a moment. Reward yourself at the weekend, that nice restaurant you love.

Job still to do though bat as long as you can don't get bored. Seeing the ball like a beach ball now, keep accumulating runs.

The game ends and England win with Root man of the match 175 not out what an innings. Next match starts next week... Focus again. Another series is around the corner. Stay on track and be greedy, be the best Joe don't settle for less. Let people aspire to be like you. Lead by example.

..... If anyone's not guessed I love cricket! 18 days gamble free. Working hard and fighting for every run (day)

Wow - a great post! As another passionate cricket lover, I really can relate. Now lets build the innings by being watchful and seeing of the good balls. The pitch might be treacherous but by solid defence and playing one ball at a time we can do it!

26 not out

Over a weeks passed since I wrote this thread and I can honestly say that I haven't once thought that I want to gamble. Ive had plenty of thoughts that I don't want to gamble for instance when I've driven passed a betting shop.

Very early days but so far I'm doing well.

Thanks for the messages.

60*

Finding it quite easy at the minute. Really enjoying not gambling. No thoughts to gamble.

Two weeks damaged a vehicle at work and knew I'd have to pay for it. First thoughts were to gamble and win the money back I'd be deducted from my wage. I didn't. I rang my partner and she quickly made me see sense. Love her to bits she's been so supportive and makes me see things rationally.

Onwards to my century and beyond

68* had a really s**t week, arguing with my Mrs badly over stuff nothing to do with gambling. Relationship proper on the rocks and its affecting me.

Got a £100 fine for not wearing a seat belt. Led me to think if only I quickly won it back. Rang the Mrs to tell her my thoughts and she soon talked me out of it, not that I think I would anyway but you never know the thought was there.

Realised its a huge trigger for me to gamble when something financially in my life goes wrong.

Im also concerned if the bad arguing continues and we split up is my first thought going to be go and gamble. Probably yes. I know its not fair to put that on her sounds extremely selfish. Hence why I'm writing it here to get it off my chest.

*gives head a shake

I know deep down I'm doing very well 68 days and I'd hate myself if I went and gambled

81* back to a much better mind set, some good chats with my partner, she really helps me. Can't wait to reach my 100 days. Won't then suddenly think I've cracked it. I'm greedy I want 1000 days and so on.

Friends want to play poker, we usually play for £20/30. I missed the last game because she made me realise it wasn't a good idea to play. I don't resent her one bit and she was right just not sure if I should consider playing in the future or not. I love playing poker with my friends, although yes I always played to win it was more the fun of playing and the beers at the friends house.

I'm guessing most people on here would agree I shouldn't play and I can totally see why.

The lads know that I have a problem and I'm trying to combat it and would totally understand.
