Morning,

I know I have a gambling problem. Its nothing new to me but I cant seem to get over it. I sold my car last year to fund gambling, even though everyone thinks I crashed it. I sold my laptop as well which I needed for work and have an old one that barely runs. Every month I lose thousands of pounds.

However, today I just needed some harsh words. I won £400 last night on a £10 bet then in literally 10 seconds lost the lot. I needed that £400 and now have £36 to last me 2 weeks till I get paid. In my head I want to put in the £10 and try again but know I shouldn't. I just need to hear people telling me not to.

I'm devastated!

i think you should talk to someone to help you. let someone handle your finances before things go worse. if you lose your job then your in more deep trouble as you will borrow to fund your habit even worse start stealing. the lies will become more and more. i myself an addict and its not easy to stop. get family and friends to help you stop, it feels shameful admitting something but at least you are moving in the right direction. your brain has changed and now all it wants is that feeling of gambling, will power wont stop you and unless someone handle your money, things are gonna get worse. please talk to your family, partner and friends for help. its not shameful asking for help, that the best and most powerful thing you can do in your situation.

I am unmarried without children. I am ready to stop but just feel I cant. I have taken myself off most sites and I have one left. I removed myself from the one I just lost £400 on. I have a limit of just £250 on the one I have remaining.

Hi Vicki alice. Your last sentence " just £250 " I've been there,  money means nothing !! I've come full circle now I think wow £250 I can do a lot with that. Gambling destroys the part of the mind that allows you to "reason" gives you that sense of worth, actually gambling destroys your sense of "right and wrong" but it does come back. I can't tell you to close your last account or  to install blocking software to stop you opening new ones up but what I can tell you is the best thing I've done in a long long time is stopping gambling, I hope you do too.

@vickialice What harsh words would you like? In reality it makes no difference what I say, what someone else says or what you read. What matters is that you have had enough. If you have then shut the last remaining account, sign up to Gamstop, call and speak to the advisers and maybe join GA. If you haven't keep going because this addiction will never just stop and go away. Never. It will always be there and will destroy every bit of you that makes you and take everything. Money, dignity, your job, your home, maybe more.

What does it have to cost you before you put your hands up and say "I'm done"?

Chris.
