Hi.

I am hoping admin will allow this link. It is from a guy called Bruce Lipton who is very famous in his field. Have a listen it explains how we function in many fields and may help you make some sense of things that may be difficult to understand.

Yes I have often referred to the give me a child until seven and I will show you the man/woman.

A lot of who we are is formed in the subconscious mind by then.. We tend to forget that we are a mass of brain neurons/chemicals formed by genetics and early influences.

My parents bless them were loving enough but not the influences I would have chosen myself. That is quite hard to come to terms with.

I was a shy anxious child bursting with potential. I think I would have been happy if people had left me alone. I hated the idea of going to school but I was dutifully sent off and I have felt like a slave to the system ever since.

My gambling behaviour was mainly to mask a deep longing and unhappiness with life which started young.  Never got the girl of my dreams and had real self esteem issues as long as I can remember. It was my drug of choice...my happy pill if you like.

I never understood  how I could become hooked on it and refused to accept I was an addict until 2015.

I am more comfortable in my own skin now but facing the truth its taken me fifty years feel like that. I sometimes feel that if I had hundreds of years on this planet I would reach the level of maturity and wisdom needed

Trying to understand the subconscious mind is the key to understanding addiction in my view

Best wishes to everyone on the forum

I’ve just watched the video and it’s an interesting way of looking at things. I am going to try out the repetition theory! I’ve got better since coming on here but only that after a week I have to keep resetting my ‘last gambled date’! I was gambling every day and lost over £20k during lockdown, and although I’ve been weak, I think 4 times in a month is at least heading in the write direction! “I will not gamble, I am strong, I am better than that” is to be my new mantra to repeat to myself! And no way am I resetting the date again!

@c43h thanks again for the link!
