Hello eyeryone

Hope you're doing well these days and all the things going around don't let you give up your hopes.

So, now, I'm facing quite a disturbing issue, and that's why I decided to talk to someone who is brave enough to make themselves fight it.

My son seems to have some problems with gambling. Of course, that affects our family relationships a lot. It's hard to talk to him, it's hard to keep him focused on the conversation, it's a real challenge to find out how his life is going and whether there is something disturbing him.

As a parent, I worry because of that a lot. I've tried some parental talk already, tried to be sympathetic. Then, I started thinking about some more "advanced" methods and involve some kind of technologies that (i hope) could make the overall process simple. So, I'm considering installing some kind of rental control. Have any of you tried something like that? What can you say about it as a tool for gambling prevention? For example, I found the article by mSpy <a href=" removed link " target="true"> removed link that claims to monitor used apps and even book them. It's true that my kid space too much time with his devices, but will a monitoring tool like that at least restrict his use of games?

Besides, I think you also understand how many malicious gaming websites and apps there are online - their main purpose is to make people pay more and more.

In the end, I just want for my kid to live a life he really deserves, without any dangerous obsessions and addictions. What would you say? Are there any parents going through the same period? What are your solutions and suggestions? Where to start?

Hi alexabates

Thank you for posting and sharing this . It must be a very tricky and upsetting time for you and your family , It is common for people to put a barrier up in these situations .

The most important thing is to be there for him when he does want to talk and open up ,  and to also remain calm when approaching the subject which it sounds as though you are already doing.

There are strategies we advise when stopping gambling you can self exclude from most online gambling by registering at www.gamstop.co.uk this self excludes you from many gambling websites .

You can also download blocking software onto devices that you have been gambling on by going to www.gamban.com

We provide support for affected others as well as for problem gamblers so please call our helpline for support and encourage your son to do so on 0808 8020 133 , or contact us on our Netline via the website.

All the best

Oh I bet its so much worse when it's one of your children my heart goes out to you and I know your a great mum as look at you on here trying to find out what you can so amazing.  Ok there is a lot off systems out there that stop any gambling going through but would he not just go where he can access it? Has he been on the gamcare site? He could have a chat see where it goes because the younger you catch it the better quality off life he will have let me know

thank you for your kind words and support...

of course, I always try to talk to him and explain everything. But, you know, there is that problem - when a person (kid, in my case) just doesn't see an actual problem.

"that's not as serious as you think it is"

"i have it under control"

"i can stop anytime" etc.

I will do my best to show him that communities like gamecare are not for "bad people" - it's a place where you can find like-minders and deal with any issue together while supporting each other.
