Hello, firstly i'd like to apologize for my poor English, since I don't really speak it.

Anyways today's the day I quit gambling. I already banned myself from gambling but unfortunately it's a little too late. I started gambling over 3 years ago, in the begging it was only few bets every other month but it developed to an addiction. I've lost over 100k, I'm in debt for 35 000€. My monthly payments are around the same as my salary, so I have no idea how to deal with it. I registered myself for food courier so I could atleast pay my rent and my monthy payments. But working 2 jobs for the next few years seems just so depressing. The worst part of it all, is that my girlfriend has no idea about my addiction or my debts. We've been together for over 5 years and she has no idea. It was always the same for me. Pay my debts, gamble the rest, get another loan to gamble even more. Now we're expecting a baby in august and I've alreadly ruined her life, and she's not even born yet. I know I should talk to my girlfriend about it but i'm just too scared. I'm not even worried about gambling anymore, since I banned myself, I can't enter a casino or gamble online. I'm worried about dealing with the debts, already behind this month. I gambled most of my salary already and now I can't make the monthly payments. Does anybody have stories similar to mine? I've read about people being in debt but usually debt/salary ratio and doable, mine seems like a lost case.

Hey,

Sorry to hear you’re struggling and not sure what to do…

I was in the same situation - as in gambled so much I’ve got £30K plus worth of debt. My husband had no idea whatsoever. It was mentally and physically exhausting lying and being deceitful everyday.

7 weeks ago I was backed in to a corner, I wasn’t home (usually I’d stay in until the postman had been as I couldn’t bare if anything would arrive, I didn’t want him to see!) A HUGE pile of bank statements arrived and my husband saw thousands of online payments to people! I had no choice but to come clean, and even when I told him, he did not suspect gambling one bit!

It was the HARDEST thing I ever had to do but was also the BEST thing I did. He was so supportive and the lost money / debt meant nothing to him, he just felt so sad that I was going through all that on my own.

I was told for so long (from people on here and my counsellor) that he will find out, you cannot keep it a secret for the rest of your life, and they were right!

You cannot properly start your recovery until you open up and restrict your access to money! You made the first massive step by admitting the problem, so well done.

Please remember, you didn't make this choice, you didn't choose this life, it's an illness. Your girlfriend won’t understand and it’s good that she doesn’t understand, but hopefully she’ll be there to support you.

Wishing you all the strength in the world. You’ve got this!!! I’m 8 weeks gamble free now and feel so determined.

Claire x

these people sorted my debts out some years ago they are very good so take a look at the site work out what you need to do to qualify for their help last time I used them the rule was at the end of the month after you have been paid and you have paid all your bills debts you are not to have any more than £50 left if you can list all your debt payments and all other bills so they work out you are more or less skint every time you get paid they will sort this out for you with a debt relief order

Step change debt charity is their name ? ?
