Day one

Hi all, I’ll try keep the post relatively short.

I’ve been gambling for around 2 years now. Started off gradually on football accumulators which weren’t really a problem. Few wins, few losses all was well.

However, I then discovered Online Slots on the Casino. It was okay at first just had a bit of a mess around but things over time have got worse and worse. I’ve lost thousands. I’ve wasted my wages repeatedly. I’ve spent money given to me as a gift on it. I luckily haven’t managed to accumulate debt because of this but not far off it, because I have nothing much left.

I am only 24 and I am addicted to harmful things, cigarettes and gambling being the worst. Used to be cannabis too but I managed to stop that, thankfully.

I’ve hit my rock bottom. This isn’t the life I want to live anymore. I’m tired of feeling low when the losses hit and watch my money disappearing on my mobile banking app trying to win something back. But if I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s that things only change if you get out there and do something about it.

So today I am no longer going to put myself through it. I want to respect my money and use it for good and save a bit. I am also going to give up smoking as well, as this makes me feel unhealthy and rubbish. I don’t think these 2 things will be easy but some day hopefully, it will be worth it.

I imagine my dopamine levels are all f*cked as well from the addictions but maybe they will improve too. I want to become the best version of myself and this is my start to a better life.

Thanks for reading if you made it this far. I appreciate any suggestions or advice.

I’ll also try update as time goes by. Take care.

Welcome.

I used to wonder how long time it would take to get better and the reply I got back then was as long as I have spent doing this stuff is the time it will take to get you better so if you have not been addicted for long you may get back to normal in a not to long distant future. But as you say if you don´t do things to change things you wont change. If any advice write things down. Take a good hard look at the things you dont like about your life outside of the addiction. Start looking at the stuff you want to hide from in your everyday life. Make decisions in how to change things with yourself and with that in mind start your recovery. We are normaly short sighted and try and deal with the addiction and solve that first. Dont do that. Look at the bigger picture. You will find a lot of awnsers there.

Best

C

Thanks for sharing. It's so good that you're realising the problem before getting into debt. How are you getting on since posting?
