Welcome to the 2019 Challenge.

Thank you to Neil C for doing the 2018 Challenge.

it's helped me keep clean and hopefully helped a lot of other people as well.

The format is going to stay the same as previous years.

First check in by 6th Jan, and i will do the update on Monday 7th Jan & subsequent Monday’s.

This thread is open to everyone, I hope it will become somewhere that helps and inspires a large group of people to take that next step in their recovery process. We start the year in different places, some of us may have abstained from gambling for a matter of minutes, others may have gone much much longer! The aim of the challenge is simple, we are going to go a full calendar year without a bet. Or the remainder of 2019 if you are joining part of the way through.

I hope that as a group we can fill this thread with positivity and some amazing stories along the way. A place where friendships are bonded, coping mechanisms are discussed, we can offload when we need to and of course we will have plenty of milestones to celebrate along the way.

How the challenge works

Firstly, if you would like to join then all you need to do is make a post. Newcomers can introduce yourself, tell us about your journey so far, what form of gambling you have had a problem with and how many days you have been free of gambling for.

Secondly, once you have joined then to stay a part of the challenge you need to make a check in post once a week before midnight on a Sunday night. Let us know how recovery is going and how many days you are on. If you ever miss a check in you will be removed from the update list but free to rejoin at any time.

Thirdly, I will update the forum on a Monday with a list of all the active members and how many days each of you has accrued. I will run through all the milestones that have been achieved.

Finally, use this thread to develop bonds and work together as a team to make life changing decisions in 2019 There may be times we are tempted or feeling low, if so this is the place to be. Tell the group how you are feeling and I'm sure there will be plenty of advice and support out there. The low times will go and being part of this challenge will allow you to have many more highs than lows, especially as the months go by!

Here is to a gamble free 2019 good luck everyone!

Ken

Thanks for doing this. This site has been an absolute godsend for me...

Trying this for the first time, my problem is online gambling - slots mainly - and has crept up on me in the last few months. Currently just 1day GF after a bit of a blip.... going for 2019!

Hi I’m looking to join the 2019 challenge to attempt my first year gamble free. I’ve managed 82 consecutive days so far and I’ve been trying to quit and on here for four years. Finances are much healthier the longer I can stay off the gambling so I’d like to make one year. My addiction is slots online and in the bingo and amusements. The longer I stay off them the less I think about them but I have always gone back to them at some point. Here’s to a gamble free 2019. Best wishes to everyone joining this challenge too.

Hi all, would like to join the 2019 challenge. Online casinos & FOBTs have been my main problem for 10-15 years now. Tried quitting multiple times but never quit for good. Currently on day 21 gamble free.

Hey comrades.

Been gf for 3 days now. Been a compulsive gambler for 30 years. Tried to stop several times but aiming to make this one stick!
My problem has always been sports betting. Yesterday was the first time in years I never had a bet on the football on a Saturday.
Hopefully we can all beat gambling in 2019.

Checking in for the 2019 challenge.

My compulsive gambling addiction began with a win in 2011. I am currently 86 days gf. It’s been one heck of a rollercoaster ride so far but I’m determined to stay gf.

We can do this....one day at a time!

This is my year!

Failed a few times but I'm still standing, now with extra support of close friends hope that I can make this my best year in a long time and put a smile back on my face and a hop in my step which has been missing for a while.

Dan.

Count me in. Sep-2008 a £10 wager on On-line Blackjack resulting in a £200 win and that was it. Been battling for 10years now - been part of this site since 2011. Lost an excruciatingly amount of money and time to this addiction but still surviving. Longest I've been without a bet is 3.5yrs, but have been battling it on and off for the last 18months now. I have to remain gf in 2019.

Hi all

Since my last post in October I fell into the trap of trying to control my gambling, a little bit can't hurt reasoning....on the 9th December ( my son's birthday ) it finally hit home that there can be no half measures.

I have being gamble free for 23 days and counting and for once don't fear looking at my bank balance. I have also set up a debt management plan with Step change...things are starting to look bit better....I'm looking forward to a gamble free 2019 so am happy to join in with the challenge.

Thank you K2 for running this challenge. I wish you every success in your recovery. I no longer count days but am pleased to say that I am nearing the end of a gamble free December.

At 0000 Hrs on 1st January I shall be setting out on a life changing quest. My mission is to remain gamble free throughout 2019 and I won't let anything prevent me from achieving that.

I've talked the talk and now I will walk the walk ...stephen
