hey all my names brad and i never thought id join a site like this but im fed up of having no money and feeling like s**t as soon as i lose my wages. But basically i get payed weekly around about £230 and as soon as i get payed i deposit it straight into my sports betting accounts and end up losing it all. I've tried multiple times to stop but as soon as i get payed i just deposit it straight back in and say to myself ill just win a little and then cash and never come back but i normally win and just carry on until i lose. I never cash out and when i do i lose the remaining balance and either cancel withdrawl's or redeposit as soon as it hits my bank. I've gone from £100 to £3000 sports betting before and cashed out £1500 but ending up losing it all through redpositing and since then i've just never got out of the habit of trying to get a big win. Ovverall i'd have to say i've lost about £25,000+ already and im only 20 its insane to me and id love to stop but just dont know how.

Hi Brad, Gamstop is your answer mate. Google it. (Though you’ll probably get a lot of results for ‘Gamestop’ which is something totally different..). It stops you from signing up/excludes you from all UK licensed betting sites for up to 5 years. It’s well worth it. It’ll stop your online gambling in an instant.

No-one here thought they might join a site like this yet here we all are, gamblers and families of gamblers alike.

You can quit as soon as you decide you want to stop rather than stop losing. Read through the advice here and act on it. Don't regret not doing so at 30, 40, 50...

Hey Brad and fellows,

my name is Jake I’m from USA I am 27 and I am just now quitting gambling. I started at age 23 and since I first won a jackpot years ago it became a hobby of mine but in the long run it has ruined my finances. I often would spend all my wages from my job as soon as I would get a check from work. I never thought I would be consumed into gambling but it has been a major thorn in my side and it continues to urge me every day.

No matter the differences we are all one we have similiar issues and we must stand firm to think beyond the gambling and focus on the long run. I am new on this forum as well and I hope to learn from all of you.

wouldn't i just be able to remove it instantly again if i wanted to gamble? or once you do it then its stuck for how ever long you've applied it for? and thank you for the reply will look into it

You set a duration, then after that duration you must contact them and request to have your block removed. There's a 24 hour cooldown period before it's removed

Not yet found a blocker that can stop me gambling Brad, but many blockers together combined with other help like counselling (which gamcare offer) or ga, etc may help

Not always a quick solution available so give everything a try and stick with it

keep posting your progress

hey reason i havn't been on here since i made this post is because im embarrsed as i lost all my wages again this week and have even taken a loan for £150 which i have never done and my gambling has never been this bad. Ofcourse the loan and wages i both lost. Even tho i managed to turn £50 into £390 and didn't cash out and pay of the loan, im in tears right now furious with myself... i hate gambling and everything its doing to me, thought about suicide a couple times but a couple days go by and i just forget and repeat my mistakes. i just dont know anymore

Hey Brad, I'm 10 years older than you and although my issue isn't as big as yours now is the time to stop. Like myself you describe it as a habit. The best way to devoid yourself of a habit is to replace it with a new one but make it a healthy one. The issue with online gambling is it's too easy to drop money into your acount and once it's in there the money isn't real any more.

I am a compulsive online gambler. Well I was until I signed up to gamstop and it's now out of my control, I won't pretend that I don't find myself thinking about online slots and sites on occasion because I do. Fortunately gamstop in no way allows me to enter any online site governed in the UK. Well none I can find that's for sure and yes I have tried. Surrendering myself to gamstop and self exclusion has been the best thing I have ever done. Now roughly 9months down the line having not gambled at all. Best of luck to you but if it's online gambling you struggle with I can't urge you enough to choose to sign up with gamstop. Yes it's been hard and I sometimes wish I hadn't pressed the button(it was even a struggle at the time) but it's also been the best thing I could have ever done to help me get a grip on my addiction and finally my financial situation isn't so d**n bleak.

Hi Brad,

In order to nip this in the bud and put a stop to it you need to join Gamstop and get yourself excluded from these betting sites.

You're young enough to turn this around but you need to start now.

Please sign up to Gamstop yes you may still get urges to gamble your money away each Friday but this will prevents you from doing that and you’ll finally be able to move on with your life and start rebuilding your finances.

Trust me when you look back it will be the best thing you ever did.

just a quick update i gambled again for about 2 months after this post but i signed up to gamstop one month ago and now have every gambling site blocked for the next 6 months which will start my recovery now, it got alot worse as i took out multiple payday loans before i had the balls to sign up to gamstop, about £1500 owed, which i will be paying off for the next couple of months now, but could also be worse i suppose and atleast now the sites are blocked for a minimum of 6 months so i cant gamble even if i wanted too.
