Why is it so hard to put practical help in place

Had a very frustrating night. Gambled and definitely didn’t want to. Then in an attempt to do something to stop the immediate craving I tried to sign up with gamstop but the 2 proof of address thing within 3 months isn’t possible at short notice for anyone living in 21st century. Then I paid £25 to sign up for Gamban on my phone but it didn’t work. And due to the time/day their support takes 24 hours to respond.
Then this morning I spoke to Natwest to ask if I could get a block on my card for gambling transactions but told it’s not possible for debit cards.
i know none of these things address the route of the problem bht just desperate for a little practical help until I do work through that.
spoke to an advisor on the live chat function which was very helpful. And have read a lot of the forums. Hope I can work out a few of these technical issues and also get to a point where I don’t need these solutions

Hi sorry you had such a bad night get you felt like everything conspiring against you. I couldn't get gamban to work either. Had no issues with gamstop I don't understand the proof of address. Ididnt have to prove anything, so I'm not sure what that is. I think other people on here swap to a different account that doesn't allow gambling transactions, Gamcare might of already advised you about that. I understand what your saying about addressing the root of the problem and that's correct but that comes with time and change. All the things you have tried to do are important tools in becoming gamble free, without gamstop I know I couldn't have stopped. I fully intend to renew gamstop at the end of the 5years just in case we never know when the urge could be unbearable so why put ourselves in harm's way. And believe me gambling became very harmful for me I'm 66 days gamble free today and wow life is coming happier calmer more stable. Use these as tools to give your mind space time away from gambling means time healing

Gamstop required me to send 2 proofs of address, like utility bills dated within the last 3 months. I do everything online so don’t have these. But will contact them to see if there’s anything else I can do to verify my identify.

66 days that’s great, well done! Finding and reading through these forums has been really helpful and gives me hope

Yes it can be difficult. I tried to sign up with Gamstop. I sent all the ID and utility bills via their suggested method. Fast forward one week and I'd not heard back from them and gambled thousands (this was only a couple of weeks ago). Then when I closed the betting accounts and asked them was I not registered with Gamstop they said no I wasn't. I requested from Gamstop to answer if I was registered and they registered me 2hours later. So I was not able to recoup monies lost. I know it's not about the money always and I will and I am ultimately taking the loss on the chin and taking responsibility for this. But the flip side is Gamstop only registered me when I prompted them. Anyway do you have emails of gas bills, or car insurance documents via online registration or the like for utility bills, I sent a gas bill and an electricity bill that I downloaded after registering online to view my account. It's good you are saying you will look more into how you can help yourself in the long run but I get how you need swift initial help to get over the shock of losing money you couldn't afford and steadying your head. Hope you get to a good place and stay there. Keep reading, keep talking, don't get complacent, like I did.

I sent them downloads from online accounts. That probably doesn’t help you now but as @st3v3n said prompt them and keep talking on here....I’ve been on here less than a week and I’ve not gambled since! Doesn’t sound a lot but every day pretty much for 7+ years it’s a big deal to me! You can do it....we can do it! X

Yes you can do it Frankie, and so can we all, we can also gamble as well, we need to keep a purpose and targets in life that are greater than the want to gamble, keep setting targets ma man, all the best

Thanks, that’s useful, I’ll try that. It’s great that you haven’t gambled since joining here. Well done! Neither have I but it’s only been 2 days- but I guess it’s something!
