Hi guys posted a couple of times on here about my struggles to kick this hellish habit that grips us all in one way or another.

So the last few months I did pretty well staying away from the slots that for me are my biggest issue among many I admit. However over the past 2 weeks I have won the equivalent to a months wages in those 2 weeks felt on top of the world until today.

Lost around a couple of hundred quid on the slots in the bookies playing fortune spins was a kick in the teeth after feeling so good the last few weeks but this loss has just brought me back down to earth with a bang. I'm still in a pretty healthy position IE still up massively but my mind is telling me to go back the money will be won back.

I genuinely want to stop gambling but as I've said before any gust of wind seems to blow me into an arcade or bookies.

Recently I got an amazing new job that I never thought I would get but in between clients I'm spending all my time on the slots and I have been late for a few clients in the process not been caught yet but as I'm still in my probation period the slightest slip up could cost me my job especially when it comes to gambling.

So in summary how do you go about staying away from gambling after a big win and staying away for good. As this is actually ruining my head and in the process could potentially risk my job.

Thanks for reading in advance any advice would be appreciated.

Hello mate,

Keep reminding yourself it's a game, don't over-do it and learn to walk away and you will be fine.

If you want to hear that we all have unfinished business in our lives and minds, well, that's a given. You are using gambling to run away, and the companies use their house edge to capitalise on that. Your choice, at the end of the day...

Hi  Biggunner93 - Good to hear your story.  I always look for similarities and where I can gain insight and perhaps send some back.

Take a look at why you are gambling, are you unhappy in your personal life?  Bored?

You are 'up' for the last few weeks - but you've not mentioned how long you have been gambling for, or if you are 'down' overall.     As we all know some people can delve in and out of gambling and bet sensible small amounts - but those that cant end up in majorly precarious situations as I know from experience.

It's not really for me to preach that you should step away from gambling for good - perhaps you will be able to stop when you find yourself just a few quid 'up' and take it as a lesson learned.   But, perhaps you'll start to chase those losses.

The fact we are chatting means you have some insight into the possibility of being a problem gambler - I hope we can continue to chat more.
