hi everyone. Little bit of background first. Got my self into quite a bit of debt around 5/6 years ago. Went to GA got my year gamble free coin, ended up doing 3 years.

Recently just moved into house with my partner and baby. And there was loads of solictiors fees, we needed household furniture etc, and i just felt the savings wasnt enough.

Slowly but surely i started betting £5, £10s slot machines , football bets. I havent got it in any more debt or missed any payments i should add but i feel im getting that way again. To be honest i never made the money back that i felt i needed for the items or if i did win i would put it all back in.

so yesterday i spoke to an advisor on live chat. Its obvious ive been lying to people closest but i cant tell them this time. Not after last. I want to take it day by day like GA advises. I said to myself last night im going to delete any apps that may cause tempation, im no longer going to lie about the most ridiculous things. I was mainly lying to cover my own backside.

i suppose what annoys me about the whole thing is im back in a good place, managed to get accepted for a mortgage yet myself thought it would be a good idea to try win some money back again. And when you think about it the next day its so easy to say this is wrong etc. But once your brain gets in that mindset theres no stopping  you throwing £100 in a machine. Ive self banned my self from betting shops but they still let me in. There needs to be stricter measures.

god grant me the serenity to accept the things i cannot change. The courage to change the things i can. And the wisdom to know the difference.

First of all, welcome back! I feel like I can relate to your story, in a good place in life generally, homeowner, decent job, great partner but I have these relapses were for some reason that doesn't seem enough, I then move onto thinking about if I just win that much I can buy this or if I win this much we can have a weekend away here, trying to fund my lifestyle via gambling, and I've known from past experiences that this simply doesn't and cant work.

I've relapsed recently and the first thing I did was come here, get yourself signed up to GamStop which will eliminate a big chunk of the ability to play online. As for the bookmakers on the street, if you've banned yourself they really should be doing more to make sure you are not allowed in.

Stick to coming to this forum, reading the stories of others who have lost a lot more than you currently have should give you even more of an idea to see what the outcome of this addiction actually does.

Stay strong!

J

welcome to the forum - i think you have answered your own question in regards to the money side of things in this one sentence. Gambling can be a short term fix, but overall its a long term problem and a terrible one at that.

Delete everything, put some blocks in place, whether that be directly from your bank or using the software available, there is no right or wrong way of doing this. I have blocked all my banks from letting me spend on anything gambling related and it has been a big help, subconsciously knowing i physically cannot gamble means i think about it far far less.

Quit while you are metaphorically ahead, do not let it spiral and try your utmost to forget the past, forget the losses etc. If you have gone GF for 3 years i am sure you experienced first hand the financial difference to your life and the new opportunities that present themselves.

I wish you well, keep posting, have a rant, express your concerns / fears, there are some great people on here with some fantastic advice.
