Hi, I understand this is a UK forum however I've not found something like this in Ireland. I hope that's ok ?

I've totally ruined my finances using online casinos, I started off a couple of years ago spending €100 month, then a week, then daily until in recent months it was several times a day, I currently have nothing left but debts, I'm a married  mum of 3, autistic adult and 2 teens-one with autism too, for now I'm keeping this to myself until I can explain it to my husband, he's a good man, hell probably be upset but he'll support me yet I don't have the guts to admit to him what I have done, luckily we have recently cleared our mortgage so no issue on losing the roof over us but I'm calculating around €30k. Loans credit cards etc and no way of being able to cover living expenses at the moment ☹️

I had excluded from many sites but there's always new ones popping up, so I've installed ggg (goodbye gambling), set to a random pin that I am not told I'm determined to stop gambling but cannot fathom out how I can sort my finances out.

I've never felt so ashamed

I’d firstly sit down and make a full list of debts you have run up and have full financial picture, I mean every single cent .

have you excluded urself from all bookmakers or casinos used ?

have you attended any gamblers annom meetings in person or on zoom?

Are you ready to hand over finances to husband ?

are you fully admitting to urself u have a problem with gambling ? Or have you ran out of money options cause that’s a big one

can you get urself a non internet phone ?

the 30k can be repaid but you’ll have months years of rebuilding trust, this can be done once ur honest urself and ur husband from here on in, the sooner you sit down and tell him the sooner can start journey to recovery but you need to go GA or seek further counseling to see why it is you gamble  and get the tools to help in recovery

remember every day ya don’t gamble things get better

My husband is a real country man, doesn't use bank cards etc, doesn't play lotto, gamble etc EVER, he's never seen the point of it (sensible I know, if only we all could be that way) I honestly am not yet able to face that conversation yet, I am looking for a local GA group or something similar but I'm not a speaker, lol, never have been, I prefer a more anonymous approach but I know that's something I will have to overcome.

I have excluded from everything I can think of and installed blocking software.

To add to that, yes I am definitely admitting to have a problem with gambling! Yes it's about the money too but that's not recoverable, it's gone, it's taken me a while to realise that I cannot gamble again to try get it back, spent too long chasing losses.

I just hope I can stay in this mindset and focus on trying to deal with living expenses on top of debts-thats something I'm struggling with

Ga is on zoom 24/7 worldwide now

u don’t need to talk you can just listen

Have you a friend or family member you can talk 2 in confidence?

you have an illness but it needs attention you can’t do this on your own 30k not to mention time invested shows you have serious gambling addiction

the steps you have taking are very good but you’ll def need more help

Have you spoke your GP?

Thank you, I didn't realise GA used zoom etc, that will be a huge help, I don't have many friends or family that are not gossips and patronising. But I will look into the g and see if I can get any help that way.

The all time low hit recently when I used the few thousand savings I had for the kids, imagine being that desperate... I am disgusted with myself.

Thanks for the advise, it is really great and I'm glad I finally opened up... Seems easier with strangers that actually understand what you're going through, thanks

@bettyfretty

Hey , I just joined here,  I feel your pain , it's really , I don't know how to stop it too , its destroying people lives but that's only my fault nobody else's,  I finally finished my apprenticeships,  good really decent job almost a 1k£ a week now on Fridays and sometimes on Sunday ain't got 2 quid left and scratches my head thinking how ? And why ? Why ? and again and again,  I'm running out with excuse what to tell misses why i never got any money left but I'm telling her I'm working Saturday overtime ...I m just joke... I wish you all the best guys , really interesting stories i seen here a massive eye opener is really nice to be able to admit to it and see how others deal with this situation,  I only do online slots so is soooo easily accessible i also self exclude my self many times but I still find a new place to loss my money at . I got 2 bank accounts,  I blocked both for being used to deposit to gamble using debit cards , so I found other way to bank transfer it to deposit use in bank which blocked the card transfer but not an account....any advice on how to prevent online slots would be much appreciated,  many thanks guys

My day one begins again, I relapsed or rather it was that I truly didn't give myself a chance....

I still have put off telling my husband but I've have my head a good wobble and myself a good talking too!

I keep putting off the conversation with my husband but I can't do it any longer, I have to somehow sort this mess out

@bartasso262 I just wanted to say hi and I hope you the very best in your journey!! , I'm not the best person to give advice as I've not been much good myself however I would suggest ggg app (goodbye gambling) set a random pin so you have no access to remove the app, my biggest problem recently was I came across an old phone at home and started using that to play online slots against, losing thousands (that I don't have!). I've got rid of that device now, any device I use now has either gamban or ggg installed, remove the ease of access!
