Hi everyone.

So i've avoided joining a site like this for a while as i would have to admit i have a problem.

I need help, I was doing well, stayed away from online gambling for three months and then today I've literally spanked every penny to my name, the money is gone, I can accept that but that feeling is still there like i need to find more money because i know I can win it all back, I hate it.

How much it takes over, I don't even recognise myself when I'm gambling, I've seen myself win thousands and immediately gamble it all away because I was sure I could win more.

I've got a missus and two beautiful daughters, I need to sort this s**t out before I lose everything.

So yeah, leaving myself wide open here.

Hi @sp-320 ,

Thank you for posting on the Forum. I am sure you will receive lots of support and encouragement from other users who know exactly what it feels like to be in your situation.

It's great that you have admitted there is a problem and that you need help with it, and there is help, information, advice and support available to you.

How you describe not recognising yourself when you're gambling is something that will resonate with other users too. You're never alone.

Good to see you have managed to stop previously and that you're ready to stop again. You are certainly in the right place.

I wonder if you have contacted the helpline (0808 802 0133) as yet or spoken to an adviser via the netline?

We are all non judgmental, available for 24 hours a day, ready to listen and support you. Any one of us  will be more than happy to refer you for some free treatment support too.

Well done for posting here. All the very best

Keely.

Hiya sp320

My heart goes out to YOU my friend your in the same situation I was in myself on the 24th of April as I had went on to online roulette the first time in over a year. 1hr later I had lost nearly  £8000 off money I never even had. I had drained my partners bank account and her arranged overdraft aswell as an unarranged overdraft, in all I had left my family with nothing. I truly left us with nothing no money for food and all this debt to pay back. My head was that messed up I did something stupid that I really regret but 5days after that I got out off hospital just to face all the mess I had got my family in to. Things were that bad I had to go to a church and get 2 food parcels. Since that day I've just been trying to get things sorted out. Each day is hard but I hate gambling and what I let it do to my family. I won't lie it's hard and I'm so embarrassed and ashamed but I've got to be strong and sort this mess out that I created

Cheers for the replies guys. I’ve chilled out now, the rush has died off. Told the missus and took the b******ing. Fair is fair eh. Sat and set up some of the blocker tools etc.

Luckily she had squirrelled some money away. So we aren’t totally screwed but it’s not exactly good. I need to make sure I don’t do that again.

@Keely... think I would feel awkward chatting on the phone but I did see the live chat. I’ll probably give that a bash and see how it goes.

@kevtheke40 appreciate you sharing bud. Seems you had a much harder time of it than myself. Glad to see you’ve came out the other side. Only way is up as they say bro.

It’s really not worth it eh. Always seems like a good idea to start off with and even when that dread and regret sets in, it’s too late, there’s literally nothing stopping you. It’s weird, I’m not a big drinker, dabbled a bit with drugs when I was much younger but didn’t reallly care about it, moved on from it pretty quickly no issue but gambling man, takes over like nothing else.

Hi sp230

Well done on picking up the courage and letting the ego aside to join this Forum. I delayed for some time also, but i have found it very useful.

I have been in the same position as you plenty of times. I win big, I lose that plus I lose my own money. I always believed I could always double my money at best. But instead I’m here in thousands of debt instead.

Gambling is a horrible illness which we have to accept, well done for you to admit that. We have all be here, we’re all here to support each other without the judgemental side.

Best thing to do is sign up to Gamban/Gamstop, be open to family and you’re well on your way to recovery.

Money comes and goes, but time doesn’t. So stay positive, you’ve got a family to be blessed with every single day.

Best wishes - Ben

You are now on a journey many have taken before you.  We can all relate to the behaviour of "P*****g it all away" as most of us have this repeat action well built into our system. I would like to turn it into something else though. We don´t really P...anything away we are just focused on a behavioural pattern that takes over us until we run out of fuel. Dopamine is the stealer of time and focus and your money. If you start to understand that part it becomes easier but we are so focused on the cash we lost that we get stuck in a very bad loop that fills us with guilt and shame. To stop this journey you are on you will need to be on top of your game as the famous coach  Tony Robbins says. You will need to be excellent to achieve excellence. To achieve change, you will need to make that focus stronger than everything else or you just won't do it. So in short a good try is not good enough you will need to be excellent in stopping your addiction spree to see the difference. But the rewards of achieving change will also be sweeter. How you ask. There are tons of different ways to try but only you know your path so make sure that you become an overachiever in all changes you want to make and simply become your own superman you will see that changes and hurdles you get over will register like never before.

All the best

C
