Hi
so I’ve been gambling for over 10 years like physically going into a casino, making small bets just like every other Saturday night. I stopped for about 2 years.
In December last year I joined online gambling sites and my gambling has just got out of hand. I’m literally spending my wages in one day. I’ve set limits on various sites and self excluded on many too for like five years. No one knows I’m carrying this secret like excess baggaged. It’s the disappointment and guilt I feel of being a gambler.

Hi Minnie.

Welcome to the GamCare forum. Well done for taking this step, I am sure you will find our forum members will be able to offer you some advice and support with this.

It sounds like you have been holding on to this for a long time but you do not have to go through this alone. Our advisers are here to help and advise you 24/7. You can contact us on our Helpline on 0808 8020 133 or you can use our Livechat option.

Well done for self excluding from many of the sites you use.

You could take a look at Gamstop - where you can self exclude from all UK cased gambling sites.

You might also want to take a look at blocking software for example Gamban or Bet blocker. This will prevent you from being able to access gambling content on the device(s) you are using.

I hear you are feeling a lot of guilt and disappointment - this sounds really tough to be dealing with. If you give us a call our advisers could also refer you for some free one to one treatment that might help you work through some of the feelings you are having.

You mentioned you are spending all your wages in one day. If you are struggling for food you could speak to the Trussel Trust who can find a food bank for you in your area. If you are unable to pay for accommodation then you may also find that speaking to Shelter could help.

As I mentioned, please give our advisers a call. We are here 24/7.

Take care and keep posting,

Rebecca,

Hi Minnie,

A big well done for coming on here and admitting you have a problem. Thats the first step !

We all understand exactly how you feel and what your going through. I know i certainly do! Its an absolute must that you stop going online gambling, use whatever you can to prevent it. I was the same, even found ways of still being able to use credit cards to deposit on the sites. Its a big vicous circle.

We have your back everytime you feel like you want to gamble come here and post. Im new here also, so our journeys are aligned.

Lets do this !

Darren

Thanks Rebecca for getting back in touch, my bills and food have all been paid for, I often gamble when all these things have been paid for. I’ve saving up to get married, I was meant to get married in May but due to lockdown it got postponed. So me and my other half were thrilled that we could save more money. Trouble is I’m using the rest of my wages to gamble, then using my wedding funds to cover what I’ve gambled. I need to install GameStop on all devices and online gambling sites. That way I cannot gambled at all.
im so ashamed of even writing this and carrying around a heavy load with me as no one knows well apart from you guys, I’m so ashamed to tell my future husband. I would never dream of going onto a online gambling site, but one day in December I’m was intrigued and 6 months later I’ve signed up to about 10. I’ve set limits and cancelled  them, I’ve excluded my self from some sites then joined others. I won £1000 last month and gambled it all away and since then I’ve chased that big win, well tried to get it back, and lost over £700 pounds. I’m so angry and ashamed and kept thinking what I could of done with £100o pounds. No use thinking about it as it’s gone.
I signed my self up to a new slot game last week and in one day gambled £700. What was I thinking of it’s really bad and spent 3 days feeling sick to the stomach, worse was I couldn’t tell anyone why I felt so bad.
I need help I cannot go on like this.
as I’m writing this, this isn’t me at all

Dear @minnie20

I am so sorry to read how gambling has affected you.

Please try not to feel ashamed, people who read your story on our forum will be very familiar with how you feel and understand how gambling draws you in and the difficulties that causes.

As previously suggested I hope that you have been able to get in touch with one of our Advisers. They will be able to give advice and offer support at this difficult time and also at any time going forward.

Just one thing that I would ask is that if are feeling down you talk to your GP. They will be able to help. It is so important that you look after both your physical and mental health at what is a stressful time for you.

Kind regards

Jo
