Hi all,
New to this site, but it’s finally time to admit that I have an issue with gambling. After coming clean to my family it has been a struggle to gain an understanding or a reason for why I gamble. Losing saving, building up credit cards and taking no consideration for anything or anyone around me.
I first came clean to my wife back in August 2021, however recently I started again. There is no particular reason as to why but the guilt felt worse the more I did it. Like many gamblers the more I did it the more I wanted to ‘win’ the money back. I couldn’t face having to tell my wife that I had done it again.
Hoping to use this as a platform of support. I told my wife everything last week and we are slowing getting things back together. However it doesn’t make the financial situation any better. I understand it will be a long process but any tips or advice are appreciated.

Hello Jon, I was gambling for the last 10 years of my life, it got too much a few months back and I told my wife about my problem. She helped me stop and I haven’t gambled at all for 17weeks now. I told her to take control of our finances so every week I left myself the minimum amount to cover my expenses, travel food and cigarettes. I’ve also been seeing a councillor every other week since I quit for one hour a session. Wasn’t easy but it all helped, it’s definitely doable. It’s not easy giving up control of your finances but I found that I needed to take that step to make sure gambling was not possible at all.
Thanks Papa, I appreciate the advice and support. It’s difficult to gain an understanding of why I gambled or why I wasn’t able to do control my finances. Hopefully by doing this it will help me in the long run.
