Hi

I have read the forums for roughly 2-3 months now, I admitted I had a gambling problem (slots) in December and vowed to not go on them again which thankfully I have stuck to, I have always told my friends I did not have a problem with sports betting as I did not think it was that bad of an issue for myself and was in control.  After some small losses over the last couple of months this forum has inspired me to use gamstop and self-exclude from all gambling websites, I am just over 2 weeks in to this and genuinely do feel a lot better even though I did not think I had a problem with sports betting previously.

From my personal experiences the difficult conversations with friends, close ones and registering with gamstop have been impulsive actions for me however once they have been initiated I have then had to deal with the consequences.  It is hard to admit to the people close to you but everyone has been nothing but supportive since I shared my problems.  My life this year has already been more positive than the last 3 years and I believe this is due to confronting my gambling problem.

I Just wanted to check in and say thanks for the inspiration and motivation the people on this forum have given me.

Good luck to everyone with their progress in recovery.

Werrit

Awesome that you received so much support. It does help. I didn't receive any from my ex and it ruined everything. Good for you for being open and honest about it all though. Hope you continue in this path.

That is a pleasure to read Werrit.

You should feel good because you are telling people the truth. Tell them again what it has done to you. Write down what you have given to the gambling dens. There is no shame in admitting to this problem. You are one of millions which should be some comfort in realising you are not alone

Do the exercises and keep reporting to people. Its about building your pride and self respect...getting your dignity back

Keep getting the reality checks because you will learn to handle them with ease. Sit down again with non gamblers and listen to how they react and what they have to say.

The truth does set you free with this addiction and you can never be complacent again.

Being gamble free is a great feeling! Nobody can tell me otherwise because I know the truth about gambling and I faced the truth

Best wishes from everyone on the forum
