HI I am 44 year old Male from New Zealand...

I have been a problem Gambler since my late teens..

No matter how much I hurt my Family I still do not seem to be able to stop gambling..

I stole all my children's inheritance they got from grandparents and gambled that away over the last year.. I also just got $60 000 worth of credit cards in the last couple of months and have wasted that as well...

I am only making $20 per hour from my job and now I am in so much debt it is sick..

I felt like killing myself a few days ago and I asked the online websites to close my account.. They ended up sending the police to my house at midnight to make sure I had not killed myself...

I want to stop gambling but it does not make any sense... Even as I say I want to stop I still keep thinking about doing it!!!..

GOd help me..

Dear Craman,

Thanks for taking the time to post on our Forum. I’m very sorry to hear how you have been affected by problem gambling and your need to reach out to others who may have been affected in the same way.

Our services are based within the United Kingdom. However there is another organization called Gambling Therapy that offers support to anyone that lives outside of the UK. You can also contact the Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand on 0800 664 262 www.pgfnz.org.nz/. I will encourage you to contact them you as soon as you can to get some help with stopping gambling.

I would also encourage you contact your doctor or local hospital if you are continuing to feel suicidal. I hope after reading other people’s post and getting some support on here, you don’t feel like you are alone in this.

Just thought I will add some helpful helplines based in NZ, you can contact for your mental health and wellbeing:

Lifeline -  0800 543 354 (0800 LIFELINE) or free text 4357 (HELP).

Samaritans -  0800 726 666

Do take care of yourself.

Best wishes,

Vanessa

Heard a good expression once saying if you fall down make sure that you land on your back because if you can look up you can also get up. Peel one layer at a time. Work out the smallest of problems so that the bigger changes come later. If you are in hell then punch your way out. Get back to the things that give meaning but start small. Don't ever give up and don't ever surrender. There are meanings to everything and we are all here for a reason. I believe that 1500% because I know what you feel as I have been there too.

Best

C
