Evening everyone,

Well, I'm new to gambling but it has affected to me so much in such little time. I have been gambling for two weeks or so and it's impact is already huge. I had £xxx saved for a house and it is now down to £xxx and I am minus £xxx in overdraft and have £xxx winnings coming in.

Today I had loss after loss and just had this urge to chase it and get my money back and the debt kept getting bigger and bigger. An hour ago I bet £xxx, made £xxx, I should have stopped there and withdrawn, but what did I do? I lost it thinking I could make more! That feeling of complete loss, shaking and tearful.

I feel that if I don't stop now I will only get worse and soon have nothing left. I'm a new dad to a 4 week old and 15 month old, I need to support my children not hinder them ? I have never felt so depressed and low on myself.

Even now, typing this I want to log on and gamble and get my losses back. What's wrong with me?!

You are a new Dad, you must think of those babies & not betting.

I lost 100k in 5 years through betting & nearly lost everything I ever had, my wife, my children & my home.

Is that really what you want for your children? Honestly whilst the loses are low, get out of this horrible gambling world & set your sights on your children before you lose everything that is important to you.

You are young enough to put this down as a bump in the road but you got over it. Put it right now before it’s too late. I chased my losses & look where it got me.....100k in debt. You can never chase & win. Quit now & you will win for the rest of your life.

@saunby92 I think this is a case of putting it down to experience, realising that it's not all bigs wins and living the high life, and move on with your life.

Accept the lossses are gone, close your accounts, self exclude if you feel strongly enough(Gamstop) and get on with the rest of your life.

It sounds to me like the drinking equivilent of a first hangover. Not as fun the day after the night before but just know and accept that if you gamble there will be consequences.

Chris.

Thank you for the replies,

I am really struggling to stop, I just had my winnings come in and saw how much I lost. I thought I'd put a quick tenner in and see if I could win more back, I did manage to make a profit but then lost it trying to make more ? That's it now, I managed to leave before spending more like I usually do. I've registered for gamstop, I just seem to have this urge in myself to keep going to get my money back. I realise I need to ban myself from these sites or I will only keep going back.

You're right, my kids do come first. I started gambling with the thoughts of making extra money on the sides to support them. Well that backfired. I need to leave before my losses get irreversible. I will call my bank and stop any transactions with casinos.

How did you all distract yourselves? A lot of my times were out of boredom. Babies asleep, I stay up and watch over them, boredom creeps in and that's where I gamble. Any advice?

Thanks, Dan

@saunby92 You say it's boredom, and that's probably true, but you've only been gambling for a couple of weeks or so, so what did you do for boredom before you started this gambling? There must be interests and hobbies that kept you occupied before this?

If you were five years immersed in gambling I would understand how you lose touch with other interests but in your case those things must be still around.

Good on you though for the blocks you have put in place.

Chris.

Hi Chris,

Well I didn't need to fill in the boredom, I'd ordinarily be asleep. My son was born recently, he sleeps every 3 hours but I can't sleep intermittently so I stay up while he is sleeping when it's my shift. It's then that I gamble the most, it was keeping myself awake and stopping boredom creeping in. Started off 25p live slot games and progressed to expensive blackjack games. I'd normally play computer games which is something I've started getting back into now when he's sleeping. I've managed 24 hours without gambling now, so hopefully it will work. The urge is still there to try and win my losses back but I need to accept it's gone, I know I do. If I don't, I know I would use far more than my means and be even worse off.

Thanks again
