Huge gambling problem

Hi all just thought I'd introduce myself.  I've always been a problem gambler, I can go for years and it won't bother me.  And then during times of stress, usually when I'm worried about money, I start.

I'm currently going through a divorce so am living on my own.  This is where the big problems started.  Usually I would blow say £1000 and confess to my wife, she would help me through it, problem is I no longer have that support so have blown somewhere around £70000 since April.

I've contacted Gamcare this afternoon and I'm waiting for someone to call me regarding counselling.  So a small step in the right direction.

I do have some financial questions though if anyone may be able to help?

Cheers Simon

Well done for deciding to come here and ask for help. We're all on our separate journey's. I also gamble when worried about money, mainly because I'm 10,000 in debt at 22 years old! You must take each day as it comes, and put plenty of barriers in place to prevent yourself from gambling. Gambling is an escape from facing reality, try and tackle whatever problems you are facing. Fill your time with other things, fishing? fitness? gaming? Anything other than gambling. Good luck!

Hi Simon.

I could relate to parts of your story and well done and taking action and getting back control.

Like you my problem gambling has always been there and comes out periodically. I hit rock bottom financially 6 years ago, got help through GA 3 years ago but today held my hand up and decided to get more support.

Good luck.

Hi Simon,

Wel done for joining the forum. Divorce would be very stressfull and I know when I'm stressed I gamble to escape so I can relate to this.

Join gamstop and put the barriers up. I hope your journey is a success and with time things get easier.

Best wishes,

Toad.
