Hello Wsters18,

It sounds like a difficult situation for you.  If you are based in Britain, please call us on our freephone 0808 8020 133 so we can offer you emotional support.

Our helpline can also signpost you to local services, for example free therapy services and other sources of advice, such as sources of legal or consumer advice like Citizens Advice Bureau or local law centres,   Although at the moment you are understandably focused on money, your recovery may benefit from more therapeutic support, so please do consider the free counselling appointments we can offer.

If you would like to protect yourself from further gambling online, common recovery methods include registering with GamStop for self-exclusion from online gambling, downloading blocking software like GamBan, GamBlock or Betfilter, and allowing someone close to you to hold your money or supervise your banking.  Reducing your access to money can help to make it less easy to gamble on impulse, and scheduling your time with other activities can help to reduce your availability for gambling.  There are self-help materials here: https://www.gamcare.org.uk/self-help/self-help-resources/

Take care,

Forum admin.

Wow... Like most of us on here you have a serious gambling problem that needs addressing.

I would forget about the money if you can and just focus your attention on getting help, support and getting well again.

Sadly the money is gone. If they gave your money back then we'd all be asking for our money back?

Because you are so sick from gambling you are asking this question I'm afraid. Think about it...

Please get help. awaken from this horrible disease.

Money can be replaced over years with honest hard work. But only if you are well, healthy and your mind is clear to focus on that target. Currently it is clouded with gambling and the gamblers mentality... Hence you asked this question.

I’d imagine that we all tried the “but I’m self excluded! It’s your fault. You shouldn’t have let me bet” line. I know I have on numerous occasions and it often led to me spiralling further out of control, rather than accepting that I was in control of my own actions.

Tough to hear, but the money has gone.

Stop now before it gets worse. It’s prob too soon for us to give any more advice, but when you’re ready, have a read around the forum and come back for a chat. We’ve all been exactly where you are right now.

Hi

Once I abstain from my addictions and my obsessions I was able to move on with my life.

I was a very unhealthy self destructive person whop at one time thought I could not help myself become healthy.

With each lie comes greater fears.

Money was never going to give me emotional resolve of heal me.

In time I became emotionally detached from Gambling, I do not love it, I do not hate it, it is just a money business, it is like saying I hate all shops.

My addictions and my obsessions is where I use to escape people life and situations I could not cope with.

In time I got to understand my emotional triggers.

In time I got to give up unhealthy habits and exchange them to healthy habits.

I handed over our finances, I carried very little money on myself it made it much easier.

Before my recovery I felt that my addictions and my obsessions controlled my life.

I was like a rat in a wheel going fester and faster towards self destruction.

The faster I went the less value I put on myself and other people.

The fear was so great that I would go against my own conscience.

The recovery program was all about healing, to no longer be hurting myself, to no longer be hurting other people.

Money was never going to repair broken relationships due to my lies.

Money was never going to heal my hurt inner child.

Money was never going to make me healthy, that was going to be my choice.

The recovery program was going to give me the choice to become healthy and whole once more.

I am a non religious person but I do believe that spiritual values are an important part of living a very healthy life today.

I use to think that money would make me feel successful.

Being successful is about my own healthy actions and my own healthy words.

If I was unable to love myself I was unable to love other people.

In time I could and would trust myself once more.

I do not fear Gambling and do not fear money.

I no longer try to control other people today.
