Hi Everyone

Long story short I’m 25 years old and have been gambling online since I was 18. I have lost thousands in this time online but recently it’s been getting worse. I have a good job, in no debt etc and only gamble spare money but this does not mean it’s any easier to take the loss.

Horse racing is my passion not just for the betting side I have been raised in a horse mad family and grew up at racecourses, I love racing but that obviously comes hand in hand with gambling. I would be happy setting a side a budget then once this has gone stop but I chase my losses. Yesterday I lost a bet and went on to loose an awful lot more. This tipped me over the edge and I finally signed up to gam stop. My fiancé knew something was up with me last night and she’s always knew I gamble but I’ve finally admitted it all to her. She’s been brilliant about it and told me to forget the past and look into the future. But this is the hard bit for me I can’t get over the losses. I don’t know whether I should seek counselling. Does anyone have any tips for getting over the past losses and moving on?

Thanks

The best advice I can give is forget the losses.  Be gamble free and look forward not back.  I would also advise attending GA.

Well. If you look at your brain like a tape recorder that records everything you do. You will use a majority of that recording of the memories you have had to make sense of your present situation, so in short, if you were sad because you lost some money on a game, you are going to feel it again on your next loss and so forth. If you want to deal with losses better I would say do not play but be nicer to yourself if you should relapse. There is no use in kicking yourself after when you should be kicking yourself before it happens if you know what I mean.

Good luck in your recovery!
