Hi all, hope you're all well.

I've been gambling quite a lot the last 3 or so months and it's been up and down. Lost hundreds then won it back then repeat. Then recently it got to thousands trying to chase all losses and while I did have some wins I eventually ended up going back in for more and lost.

Now I'm sitting here with about £7k of savings lost and I'm feeling guilty and really beaten up. I'm thinking what I could of done with that money and how I want it back to start saving again. I know I need to stop but I need a way to be able to save to get that money back but I don't have much spare cash at the end of the month so it all seems impossible, or at the very least feels like I'll be paying for this for many years to come. 🙁

Hi there,

Welcome!I’m pleased to meet you as if you reached this forum there are big chances you want to change your life and start feeling better:)

I know how it is to loose control over the money when gambling, completely ignore the value of money and use them as tokens, numbers to feed my addiction!

I’ve been gambling for over 11years ,almost everyday-but today it’s my 82Days GF.So if you really want to stop-block yourself from all the sites to not be tempted. We all now that even if we win,we will give it back to keep this dopamine rush at high level...till we loose and we feel disguasted with our actions.

But trust me,your life can be better. You can start to save your money again. But it needs to be done now!Read the success stories on forum, speak with counsellor, change your habits.Once you break this vicious circle-you will start feel better day by day.

I wish you all the best?

Hi pete, thought I'd drop in to say well done for coming here to start with, ive had a gambling problem for about 20 years, got some control for spats of that but find the only way to win is to not gamble at all.

I'm on day one of being gamble free after losing a chunk yesterday so am feeling that depression too. All day I've thought about what I could have done with the money ive wasted and told myself off for it to as we need to accept its gone, its done theres no turning the clock back but..... we can start a fresh ?.

Ive used these diaries in the past and if I was having an urge I'd come on read a few and write some it really can help.

Just remember your not alone and better days can lay ahead

Take care

I had a look at some footy bets today and I was so tempted to put 500 on a bet , I kind of feel I've missed out on that win, but at the same time I am thinking I've done the right thing in not placing anymore bets. Did I win by not gambling even though it would of won? Maybe.

Ive set myself back maybe 2 years in terms of my goals for the future, and in this current pandemic who knows what will happen. I feel down but im trying to remain positive.

Thanks guys and all the best on this journey!

The more you gamble, the more setbacks you will have. It's that simple. Very difficult to stop but trust me, the feeling of setting yourself back two years is better than 10 years which is what I have done.

hardest part IMO, is to accept that all your money you lost is gone. and there is no way to get it back. once you accept this you can try to move forward, you cant change what you lost, but you can stop losing anymore in the future

I was in a similar position to yourself, blew all my life savings, I took out loans, credit cards etc. It’s a horrid addition. Nothing feels worse than reflecting on what you could have done with that money had you not gambled. To this day I still feel terrible about it and it’s horrible. I’m now 10 months gamble free, paying off my debt and building some savings. Things will get better, putting in all the blocks help a lot with your journey of recovery.
